Postdoctoral Fellows for vascular study
The Cardiovascular Biomechanics Lab at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is
seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to join our research team. One position is
supported by a training grant from the NIH. US citizenship or permanent residence is required
for this position.
We seek candidates to work on one of the following 3 topics: (1) theoretical modeling of arterial
wall stability, (2) interaction of blood flow and the arterial wall in tortuous arteries, OR (3)
vascular remodeling of tortuous arteries using an organ culture model.
Project 1 requires good training in math and mechanics and skills in dealing with dynamic
instability or mechanical buckling. Skills in mechanical modeling and solving differential
equations are needed.
Project 2 requires training in computational fluid dynamics or computational biomechanics. Skills
of using computational codes such as Fluent, COMSOL, or ABAQUS are needed. Experience in
fluid-structure interaction is preferred.
Project 3 requires training in vascular cell biology. Experience and skills in vascular cell culture,
western blotting, PCR, immunostaining of cellular and extracellular matrix proteins, and related
techniques and troubleshooting are required. Experience with tissue organ culture is favorable
but not required.
Good communication skills are required.
Salary is competitive based on qualification. The targeting starting date is August 2010.
The Cardiovascular Biomechanics Lab is also part of the Biomedical Engineering Program
jointly sponsored by UTSA and University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio
(UTHSCSA). The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work with collaborators,
including vascular biologists, vascular surgeons, and biomedical engineers, at both campuses.
UTSA is a Hispanic Serving Institution and applicants with minority background are encouraged
to apply.
Application (CV, career goals, and contact information of 2 references) and inquiry should be
submitted electronically to:
