Agency overview
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is the state’s primary environmental regulator. We work with
business, government and the community to manage and reduce pollution and waste. The EPA is a separate
agency within the Planning and Environment cluster. We respond to pollution incidents and emergencies and
enforce environmental regulations, monitor compliance and investigate reports of pollution. The EPA regulates
the environmental aspects of native forestry on public and private land in NSW.
Primary purpose of the role
Undertake designated day to day tasks relating to the application of EPA legislative responsibilities within the
parameters of the Section’s or Region’s work plan; support Section or Region staff with diverse environment
protection and environmental improvement activities and approaches.
Key accountabilities




Provide support to Operations staff including undertaking research, surveys, preparing basic reports,
submissions, correspondence and briefs, collecting, analysing and reporting information, and liaising
with internal and external stakeholders where required.
Process applications for licences; process annual returns and licence compliance reports and
documents in a timely manner and with a high level of accuracy.
Assist to undertake standard environmental surveys and investigations to assess actual or potential
environmental problems and recommend possible remedial action to the reporting officer; collect and
input data on stakeholder issues in relation to the regional compliance audit program.
Attend incidents and inspections with authorised officer(s) to follow up on complaints, ensure
environmental requirements are met and perform appropriate follow up action which may include
drafting a letter or a notice.

Liaise with EPA and local government officers regarding environmental complaints, compliance issues
and environmental improvement activities to discuss relevant local issues. Respond to routine
environment complaints by providing information or liaising with complainants and stakeholders to
resolve the problem, consistent with EPA policy.
Liaise with stakeholders within designated areas of responsibility on current and future environmental
improvement and legislative requirements; follow up on issues and provide advice and assistance to
the reporting officer in working with stakeholder management.
Apply day to day EPA environmental legislative provisions and submit recommendations for
appropriate responses or action to the reporting officer.
Use EPA electronic document and workflow management systems such as CIRaM, PALMS and TRIM
to ensure that records are maintained in accordance with legal and policy requirements and that all
decisions are appropriately recorded.
