English Biographies: we will be researching the life stories of famous inventors such as Alexander Graham Bell and Edward Jenner. Short stories: we will be focusing on short stories based on the animation Girl and Robot, writing in role as different characters from the story. Explanation text: based on our work in science, we will learn about how light bulbs work and writing explanation texts about creating working electrical circuits. Journalistic writing: writing newspaper reports of significant events and inventions – for example, when the sound barrier was broken. SPAG: we will be working on our spelling, punctuation and grammar targets throughout all of our literacy units Electricity: SSuum mm meerr TTeerrm m CCuurrrriiccuulluum mN Neew wsslleetttteerr light bulb, and – of course – the iPad! We will also be thinking about how some mechanisms, including levers, pulleys and gears, allow a smaller force to have a greater effect. our learning in a variety of curriculum areas. Miss Patel will be teaching computing and coding skills to Year 6, providing a modern, up-to-date curriculum! We will be using databases and spreadsheets to investigate data sets Ratio and proportion: solve problems involving the relative sizes of two quantities where missing values division facts, solve problems involving similar shapes Homework A written task, spelling task, and maths task will be given out on Friday afternoon. Homework should be returned on the following Monday. Please ensure that you child completes every task and returns it on time. It is also really important that your child reads at home regularly. Please encourage them to read daily. Trips to the library would also be very beneficial. We take attendance very seriously at Pikes Lane. Algebra: use simple formulae, generate and describe linear number sequences, express missing numbers calculation algebraically , find pairs of numbers that satisfy an equation with two unknowns, enumerate possibilities of combinations of two variables. Measurement: recognise when it is possible to use formulae for area and volume of shapes, calculate the area of parallelograms and triangles. Geometry (properties of shape): illustrate and name the parts of circles (radius, diameter, circumference) PSCHE We will be focussing onconstruct developing PSCHE skills, Statistics: interpret and pie our charts thinking about: - Giving - Keeping active - Connecting - Taking notice
