THE KAAWS CLINIC, PLLC JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Department: Reports To: Pay Range: Animal Health Technician II Clinic Facilities Chief of Staff/Clinic Manager Hourly Pay; $12-$16/hour SUMMARY Responsible for providing the highest quality of care possible for patients during hospitalization and surgery and wellness procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Promote the humane care and treatment of animals at all times. Admit patients into clinic facilities; obtain medical history, perform physical assessment and diagnostic testing prior to procedures. Communicate patient condition, test results, and medical history of patients to the attending veterinarian. Under the direct supervision of the veterinarian, administer medications, anesthesia drugs, and prepare animals for surgery. Monitor surgery patients from the induction of anesthesia until full recovery has been achieved. Assess patient readiness for discharge and discharge patients. Complete follow up calls to clients with post-surgical complications. Communicate with clients regarding patient care matters including results of diagnostic testing and other medical findings. Participate in daily cleaning routines including scrubbing and preparation of surgical instrument packs. Establish and adhere to maintenance programs for all medical equipment, company vehicles, and all computer equipment. Interact with clients and staff in a friendly and professional manner. Enforce and adhere to clinic procedure and employee manuals. Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Maintain strict confidentiality on client, patient, and donor information. Maintain controlled drug record keeping and reporting. Adhere to OSHA compliance policies & procedures. Attend safety meetings and training. Ensure proper and safe storage of paper and electronic medical records. Participate in approved continuing education programs relevant to job function. Be respectful of coworkers and treat subordinate and superior staff, clients, volunteers and patients in a professional manner. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent and five years veterinary clinic experience required. RVT or equivalent certification preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; inventory software; database software; Internet software; E-mail; and order processing systems. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS RVT or equivalent certification preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manage Animal Health Technician I employees and Animal Assistants, delegating duties as needed. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The potential exists for exposure to zoonotic diseases, such as rabies, mange, and ringworm. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. 2 1747500 Animal Health Technician II PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Must be able to type written communications, enter and retrieve data via computer keyboard and monitor. Must be able to visually and aurally assess the health and well-being of patients. Must be able to communicate verbally and aurally via telephone and in person and also via written material. Requires ability to lift patients, equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds, considerable walking, standing and moving of equipment and patients.
