Use case 1e: Indoor Healthcare System (Comment)
• In indoor healthcare
system, the terminal
device should be more
flexible, low mobility
should be supported.
• AP/STA’s will be
deployed at home.
• Several users can
share one AP/STA if
possible.

Use case 1i : Outdoor Healthcare System (Proposed)
• In disaster region, a temporary first aid station will be built soon, and
most victims will be collected in the station, and receive medical
treatment.
• When disaster happens, the communication network and internet
infrastructure might have been destroyed, an IEEE 802.11 based
wireless network should be built immediately, to support the
transmitting of the medical data in the temporary first aid station .
• Transmission of large amount of data should be supported, because
there might be a lot of victims.
• Open air environment (probably with rubble).

Use case 1i : Outdoor Healthcare System (Proposed)
• Scenario in this use case is kind of like the pipeline monitoring
scenario in Use case 1d: Sensors for industrial process automation.
• AP/STA will be deployed as followings:
– Place at LOS position with each other
– If necessary, AP uses high gain antenna
• STA should support a variety of devices
in the terminal network
•

monitoring devices\Other devices
Differs from 802.11s on:
– distance between AP/STA will be large
(~2km)
– Rural (open air) or rubble environment
– STAs with low mobility.
– STA/AP’s have data handling ability
(handled on the spot).

Use case 1i : Outdoor Healthcare System (Proposed)
Disaster rescue medical service
Location
Outdoor
Environment type
rural\urban area (probably with rubble)
STA/AP communication
2-way (healthcare data & control)
Mobility
Stationary ~ low (walking )
Traffic type
• Periodic: several KBytes every sub-seconds (e.g. series
of blood pressure, ECG, …)
• Event-based: few 100 bytes per event
Security requirement
Commercial-grade
STA/AP capacity
STA:<100, AP<10
STA/AP category
STA: Stationary, walking
AP: Stationary
Data handling
AP supports data handling/aggregation

Straw Poll 1
• TGah shall adopt the proposed use case 1i.
Comment on the two basic application scenarios of use case 1i:
1)When disaster happens, for example earthquake, where most of
the network infrastructures (except satellite) are destroyed;
2)In the wide rural area of China, where there are little rural families
which have the nearby internet access through one 11ah AP.
