Acid-on-the-Fly (AOF) Blending System
HAL30504
Real-time Blending Helps Optimize Acid Treatments and Improve Environmental Performance
Halliburton’s acid-on-the-fly (AOF) blending system provides
significant improvements in several aspects of the acidizing
process:
• Enables real-time, on-the-fly adjustments to the acid blend.
• Delivers a precisely controlled acid blend downhole.
• Enables taking a blended sample for testing and verification
anytime during the treatment.
• Eliminates disposal issues since acid is blended only as it is used.
• Unused acid components can be recycled for another treatment.
• Improves personnel safety.
e ability to modify the treatment at any time can provide
important advantages. For example, if a problem arises due to
hydrofluoric acid creating unexpected damage, the treatment can
be stopped or the acid blend quickly changed to hydrochloric acid
with no wasted material. For fail-safe performance, the computer
and electrical system are backed up by manual controls.

Advanced Equipment Engineering Provides
Improved Performance
e AOF system provides excellent quality control through
computer-based monitoring to help insure that the designed acid
blend is delivered downhole.
e new AOF blending system can blend three base solutions and up to
seven liquid additives simultaneously into a pressurized line while
maintaining the desired mix ratio.

Improved Safety and Environmental Performance
At the conclusion of the treatment, any excess acid components
can be handled very efficiently. e acid supplier simply returns
the remaining material to the supplier’s facility.
A sampling valve
incorporated in the
discharge line allows
the operator to safely
and quickly obtain a
downstream sample
anytime during the
delivery process
During the entire treatment, an automated alarm system enables
immediate job shutdown for improved personnel safety. Also, the
acid-blend sampling system has been engineered to limit the
exposure to the operator and to the environment.
In addition, the diesel engine is California Air Resources Board
approved and meets all California emission regulations.
HAL30507
e system reduces the treatment site footprint by eliminating the
need for 10 or more 6,000-gal poly tanks on location to contain
preblended acid. One tank for each corrosive agent will replace
the preblended acid tanks.
Improved Chemistry Performance
e AOF system eliminates concerns about the life of the corrosion
inhibitors. In the conventional approach, preblended acid may sit
on location for several days. With the AOF system, all liquid
additives remain in concentrated form until delivered to the
downhole pump.
HAL30506
e AOF system is designed so that it can be used with StimWatch®
monitoring service and/or Guidon AGS™ acid guidance system to
enable real-time monitoring and adjustment of the treatment for
genuinely optimized acidizing results.
HAL30505
Each additive tank is equipped with an eye wash, spray station and a
low level /high level alarm system. e AOF blender is DOT and OSHA
compliant.

acid-on-the-fly real-time blending system can
help improve your acidizing treatment results,

A proprietary reference meter system replaces the standard “buckettest” method, limiting the exposure of operators and the environment
while verifying the accuracy of the liquid additive delivery system.
