Are You Washed In The Blood? #330
Have you been to Jesus
For the cleansing power?
Are you washed
In the blood of the Lamb?
Elisha A. Hoffman ©Public Domain, ARR, ICS,UBP
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed
In the blood of the Lamb?
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing
blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the
blood of the Lamb?
Are you walking daily
by the Savior's side?
Are you washed in the
blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment
in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the
blood of the Lamb?
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing
blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the
blood of the Lamb?
When the Bridegroom cometh,
will your robes be white?
Are you washed in the
blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready
for the mansions bright,
And be washed in the
blood of the Lamb?
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing
blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the
blood of the Lamb?
Lay aside the garments
that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the
blood of the Lamb.
There's a cleansing power
for the soul unclean;
O be washed in the
blood of the Lamb!
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing
blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the
blood of the Lamb?

Resisting Revenge
Matthew 5:38-42
Setting the Context
Matthew 5-7
•Matt. 5:38-42 is one of the most commonly
misinterpreted passages because it is taken
out of context
•The Sermon on the Mount contrasts true
righteousness with the self righteousness
of the scribes & Pharisees
•Jesus’ teaching also illustrates the
characteristics of the Beatitudes displayed
in specific situations
The Scribes and the Law
Matthew 5:38
•“Eye for eye and tooth for tooth”
(Exod. 21:24; Lev. 24:20 & Deut. 19:21)
restricted punishment
•The law prevented excessive
punishment based on personal revenge
and retaliation
•The law curtailed further crime because
by creating fear of the consequences
The Scribes and the Law
Matthew 5:38
•The principle of an “eye for an eye” is
equitable, just and compassionate
•The scribes twisted this restriction on
revenge into a mandate to retaliate
Jesus and Righteousness
Matthew 5:39-42 / Luke 6:29-30
•To understand what Jesus means, you
must remember that Jesus is
contrasting His teaching with the
scribes
Do not Resist
Matthew 5:39
•The grammar is ambiguous leading to
contrasting interpretations
•It does not refer to the devil since
James 4:7-9 & 1 Peter 5:9 command us
to resist the devil
Do not Resist
Matthew 5:39
•It does not refer to a general principle of
evil since Jesus & the apostles resisted
evil (John 2; 1 Cor. 5:13)
•A God given purpose of civil
government is to resist evil - Romans
13:4; 1 Peter 2:13-14
Attacks on Personal Honor
Matthew 5:39
•A slap on the cheek is a demonstration
of contempt
•Righteousness exhibits mercy and
grace as did Jesus - Luke 23:34, 1 Peter
2:20-23
•Neither Jesus nor Paul defended their
personal honor, but they did defend the
law (John 18:23; Acts 23:3)
Personal Protection
Matthew 5:40
•Exodus 22:25-26, you could be
compelled to give up your inner
garment to pay a debt, but not the outer
one
•The righteous in heart will yield even
what is not required in order to satisfy a
debt and not offend
Personal Protection
Matthew 5:40
•The meek desire God’s glory rather than
their own material wealth or comfort - 1
Corinthians 6:1-8
Personal Liberty
Matthew 5:41
•A Roman soldier could compel a civilian
to carry his gear up to a mile
•“Going the extra mile” means to go
beyond what is required and being a
blessing
•Only those who trust God can be meek
and merciful to “go the extra mile” for
an enemy
Personal Possessions
Matthew 5:42
•We meet needs, but not in violation of
other Biblical principles
•1 John 3:17 - if we have the means to
meet another person’s need, then we
should do so
•The heart issue is whether you value
your possessions than in serving God trusting Him to meet your needs
Tips on Meeting Real Needs
and not getting fleeced
1) When asked for money, find out what
is needed and offer that instead
(refrain from giving money)
2) Find out the real need, and meet that
need, not what is requested
3) Do not reinforce ungodly and unwise
habits by continually removing the
consequences of behavior
Tips on Meeting Real Needs
and not getting fleeced
4) If possible, offer a way to earn what is
being requested - 2 Thess. 3:10
5) Jesus & following God are the real
need - Give in His name and proclaim
the gospel - Mark 9:41
• Do not let a love for personal
possessions rob you from serving
God with them
Conclusions
Romans 12:17-21
•Resisting revenge is possible for those
who are made righteous by faith in
Jesus and walk by the Holy Spirit
•A true Christian strives to follow Jesus’
example

Since I Have Been Redeemed
I have a song I love to sing,
Since I have been redeemed,
Of my Redeemer, Savior, King,
Since I have been redeemed

Since I have been redeemed,
Since I have been redeemed
I will glory in His name;
Since I have been redeemed,
I will glory in my Savior’s name;
I have a Christ that satisfies,
Since I have been redeemed.
To do His will - my highest prize,
Since I have been redeemed
Since I have been redeemed,
Since I have been redeemed
I will glory in His name;
Since I have been redeemed,
I will glory in my Savior’s name;
I have a witness bright and clear,
Since I have been redeemed,
Dispelling every doubt and fear,
Since I have been redeemed.
Since I have been redeemed,
Since I have been redeemed
I will glory in His name;
Since I have been redeemed,
I will glory in my Savior’s name;
I have a home prepared for me,
Since I have been redeemed.
Where I shall live eternally,
Since I have been redeemed
Since I have been redeemed,
Since I have been redeemed
I will glory in His name;
Since I have been redeemed,
I will glory in my Savior’s name;
