Prof José Luis Iparraguirre is Chief Economist at Age
UK in London and Professor of Economics at the
University of Morón, Buenos Aires, Argentina. In these
capacities, he is academic advisor to several research
programmes on ageing-related topics. As a leading
member of Age UK‘s Policy and Research Department,
he was joint-author of Age UK’s Index of Wellbeing in
Later Life, published in February 2017. Formerly Senior
Research Economist at the Economic Research Institute
of Northern Ireland and Senior Economist at the Northern Ireland Economic Council,
Professor Iparraguirre’s career on the island of Ireland involved providing economic advice to
the Northern Ireland Executive. In 2010 he developed a module for CARDI on the Economics
of Aging and was the author of ERINI’s report, Quality of Life in Northern Ireland. Originally
from Argentina, he was previously Under-secretary of State for Finance and Budget in the
province of Corrientes. Prof Iparraguirre’s wide-ranging academic work includes analysis
and publications related to the economies of several countries in Latin America and Europe.
Reflecting his far-reaching intellectual interests, Prof Iparraguire’s academic credentials
include a PhD in the Demography of Social Change (under examination); and Master’s
Degrees in Economic Policy; Applied Contemporary Philosophy; Applied Statistics; and
Public Policy and Management. He also holds Graduate Diplomas in Social Research
Methods and in Social Economy and Local Development.
