Cruse Bereavement Care Job Description Job title: Post Holder: Location: Responsible to: Responsible for: Hours: Project Manager - Bereavement in the Military Family Vacant Appropriate Cruse Offices throughout England Director of Services Bereavement in the Military Family volunteers, Military trainers and consultants 35 hours per week JOB DESCRIPTION Purpose of job To deliver the Libor Fund Project supporting the military family across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. KEY TASKS: 1. Management and Service Development: Finalise the ‘Bereavement in the Military Family’ project plan in line with ‘Our Strategy 2013-18’ and the Armed Forces Covenant Libor Fund Application proposal Set and monitor targets and key performance indicators for the Bereavement in the Military Family Project and produce progress reports as required for Cruse Directorate and the Ministry of Defence. Map Rehabilitation Units and Military units across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Build on and develop relationships with key personnel within the Armed Forces, the MOD, The Royal British Legion and other organisations that support the Military Family Promote the work of the project, including presenting at Cruse National Conferences and external project showcase events Refresh, repackage and reprint existing bereavement publications and resources for the Military community Make use of new and emerging technologies available to deliver bereavement support services; including telephony, websites, email, instant messaging etc. Contribute to income generation activity by providing inputs to plans and funding proposals, and development of new projects Act as a central point of reference for all bereavement issues relating to the armed forces Develop and implement a plan for long term sustainability of the project once initial funding has ceased at December 2015 2. Projects, Policy & Best Practice: Lead on the development, review and implementation of organisational policies, procedures and practice in areas relevant to allocated responsibilities 1 Contribute to the development and promotion of best practice in areas relevant to allocated responsibilities by keeping informed of good practice both inside and outside of Cruse and disseminating these within the management and wider Cruse organisation Ensure that the needs of underrepresented groups are considered in the development of new and existing services and in the recruitment of project volunteers 3. Regional Support Provide management advice and support on military issues across all Nations/Regions, working in conjunction with the relevant geographical Lead Managers 4. Volunteering Publicise Military Family peer support within Rehabilitation Units and Military units across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Recruit, train, induct and support Military Family volunteers in providing practical and emotional peer support Train existing Cruse bereavement volunteers to better support bereaved military family members Identify volunteers for future leadership roles and train and support them to take work forward following project completion December 2015 5. Training Deliver one day training in supporting the Military family to Cruse trainers enabling them to cascade learning down to Cruse Regions and Areas in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland Lead on the development and oversee the provision of online, telephone and face to face training in bereavement support skills for the Military family Manage the further roll-out of online training ‘The Military Family’ and develop further online learning as required Design and develop self help resources for the Military family including production of a bereavement app 6. Major Incident Contribute to developing and maintaining the preparedness of Cruse to respond to major incidents; including the development of appropriate systems and procedures. Act as one of the lead managers on the deployment and support of ‘rapid-response’ volunteers to provide bereavement support in the event of major incidents throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland Represent Cruse Bereavement Care on the Voluntary Sector Civil Protection Forum in order to engage with local, regional and central emergency planning 6. Promotion of Cruse Bereavement Care Promote and represent Cruse at relevant forums, external events and meetings as agreed with the Director of Services Participate in media responses where appropriate 2 7. Staff and Volunteer Management Line manage and support volunteers and staff (including external contractors, trainers and consultants) delivering Cruse military tenders or military related training events Contribute to the continuing professional development of military project volunteers 8. Other Provide occasional relief management support to the Cruse national helpline and online support services Attend committees, convene meetings and be self administrating Work to identify barriers to access and ensure diversity in all aspects of service development, including contributing to the development and review of equality and diversity policies Deputise for the Director of Services as and when appropriate Participate in the work of the Service and Development Team Undertake such other duties and tasks as may lie within the scope of this post to ensure the effective delivery and development of Cruse Bereavement Care’s services Cruse Bereavement Care Person Specification Knowledge and Experience Essential 1. Knowledge of the Military Family and ex-service communities and the issues and concerns which may impact upon those communities; 2. Experience of working (on a professional or voluntary basis) in a health or welfare environment, or one where there is a primary need to support or care for others; 3. Experience of project management and delivering projects in full and on time; 4. Experience of designing or delivering training or making presentations; 5. Experience of managing good relationships with a diverse range of customers, clients or stakeholders; 6. An understanding of the impact of bereavement on the Military Family Desirable 1. Knowledge and understanding of the ethos and values of the voluntary sector and of the implications of working with volunteers; 2. Experience of supporting individuals or groups who are anxious or in distress; Skills Essential 1. High level of project management skills and knowledge of project management tools and systems; 3 2. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with others; 3. Excellent training and presentation skills 4. Ability to work within a team both as a member and leader of a team; 5. Ability to network effectively and to enthuse and motivate others; 6. Ability to be self-motivating, work autonomously and achieve set outcomes with minimal supervision; 7. Proficiency in using IT, including email and standard software packages; 8. Excellent administrative skills and ability to keep accurate records; 9. Ability to prioritise work in a demanding environment, including excellent timemanagement skills; 10. Sensitivity to the differing needs of individuals in working within a diverse client and volunteer base; 11. Ability to cope well in an environment where bereavement issues are constantly under discussion. Other The post is funded until December 2015. The post will be based either in Cruse Central Office, Richmond, London or at other Cruse offices in England by negotiation. The post will involve significant travel in order to meet the project outcomes and some attendance at evening/weekend meetings/ conferences is expected which will involve some travelling and overnight stays. Time off in lieu will be given to compensate. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS clearance before appointment can be confirmed. September 2013 4
