About your test
The procedure
>Your doctor / midwife have requested this test as a
>When you arrive at Taranaki Medlab you will be given
routine screen for diabetes in pregnancy.
>You do not need to make an appointment for this test.
>The most reliable result is obtained if the test is done
a drink containing 50g of glucose. You will be asked
to drink this within 3-4 minutes.
>Please tell a staff member if you feel unwell at any
time during your test, e.g. if you feel drowsy, dizzy
or nauseous.

>You are not required to fast before your test.
>A blood sample will be collected 1 hour after you finish
the glucose drink.
>For your test we require you to remain at Taranaki
Medlab for just over 1 hour.
>This completes your test and you may eat and drink
normally.
>During this time you will be required to rest. You may
like to bring a book to read.
>You will not be able to eat during your test, but will be
able to drink water.
