Evaluating levels of unemployment
and economic hardship
CAMEO Unemployment
CAMEO Unemployment is a postcode level classification assessing
economic inactivity, a key factor influencing the relative wealth of an
area and levels of economic hardship.
 Improves customer
insight
 Increases targeting
precision
 Boosts response
 Lowers cost per
acquisition
 Reduces marketing
wastage and cuts
costs
Built using the latest Government Unemployment Registers, CAMEO Unemployment is a
true evaluation of the unemployment rate.
Built using long and short term unemployment rates across male and female claimants
gathered at super output area level – identifies unemployment in isolation as a key
differentiator.
Groups all UK postcodes into 20 distinct unemployment groups which band local
neighbourhoods by two key variables:
 The percentage of unemployed households within a postcode
 The index of unemployed households in a postcode compared to the average
