How To Keep Your
Joy
Part 5 Philippians 2:9-19
The 11th Commandment
“Thou Shalt Not Complain”
12 Dear
friends, you always
followed my instructions when
I was with you. And now that
I am away, it is even more
important. Work hard to show the
results of your salvation, obeying
God with deep reverence and
fear.
13 For
God is working in you,
giving you the desire and the
power to do what pleases
Him.14 Do everything without
complaining and arguing,
15 so
that no one can criticize you.
Live clean, innocent lives as
children of God, shining like
bright lights in a world full of
crooked and perverse people.
16 Hold
firmly to the word of life;
then, on the day of Christ’s return,
I will be proud that I did not run the
race in vain and that my work was
not useless.
17 But
I will rejoice even if I lose
my life, pouring it out like a liquid
offering to God, just like your
faithful service is an offering to
God. And I want all of you to share
that joy. 18 Yes, you should rejoice,
and I will share your joy.
19 If
the Lord Jesus is willing,
I hope to send Timothy to you
soon for a visit. Then he can
cheer me up by telling me
how you are getting along.
Philippians 2:12-19
FOUR COMMON TYPES OF
COMPLAINERS
1. THE "WHINER":
___________.
KING DAVID
Was it for nothing that I kept my
heart pure and kept myself from

MOSES
And Moses said to the LORD,
“Why are you treating me, your
servant,so miserably? What did
I do to deserve the burden of a
people like this?
12
Are they my children? Am I
their father? Is that why you
have told me to carry them in
my arms—like a nurse carries
a baby—to the land you swore
to give their ancestors?
13
Where am I supposed to get
meat for all these people? They
keep complaining and saying,
‘Give us meat!’ 14 I can’t carry
all these people by myself!
The load is far too heavy!
I’d rather you killed me than
treat me like this. Please spare
me this misery!
Numbers 11:11-15
15
3. THE "CYNIC":
_______________.
KING SOLOMON
“Everything is meaningless,” says the
Teacher, “utterly meaningless!”……
nothing really changes…. Everything
is so weary and tiresome!….. we are
never satisfied….. we are not content.
Ecclesiastes 1:2,4,8
4. THE "PERFECTIONIST":
_________.
MARTHA
40
But Martha was worrying over
the big dinner she was preparing.
She came to Jesus and said, “Lord,
doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my
sister just sits here while I do all the
work? Tell her to come and help me.”
41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear
Martha, you are so upset over all
these details!
Luke 10:40-41
Complaining in any form is a
kill joy for you and others!
