Comprehensive Industry Document Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry Foreword The documents under the Series 'Comprehensive In(justry Document' (COINDS) brought out by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), are designed to cover the status of various categories of industry in the country in respect of number of units, their locations, capacities, manufacturing processes, wastewater generation and characteristics and unit processes for treatment and control of discharge and emissions of pollutants. The effluent and emission standards also form part of these documents. The present document on Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry is one in the series. Best practicable technology currently available and its economic viability are the basis on which the standards are evolved. Economic viability has been assessed based on cost calculation expressed as total annual burden due to pollution abatement and control as a percentage of total annual turnover. The standards evolved herein have been notified by the Ministry of Environment & Forests under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
