TRUCKSTOP- project description 2007-06-27 Title: TRUCKSTOP Organisation: Örebro municipality, City planning department Örebro municipality is a medium sized city in the middle of Sweden which is working hard to increase sustainable transport and logistics in the city. The municipality is used to work with European projects and funds. Goals: - Secure rest places and parking areas along the European road network - Clean and less noisy city Description: The municipality of Örebro would like to develop together with other cities in Europe a project which will focus on promoting secure rest places along the trans-European road network. Örebro is today one of the country’s junction for transport with heavy vehicle, both national and international. The municipality and the region of Örebro have a logistic profile which is a part of the business politic. About 5 000 trucks and buses from Finland, Norway and from the southern part of Europe are passing through the city everyday. The junction between the European highways E18 and E20 is one of Sweden’s most trafficated parts in Sweden with heavy vehicles. The heavy traffic on municipal roads has increased a lot during the last years. Service and reparation buildings for those vehicles, drivers, travellers and transport companies are today scattered in the city. The populated areas are encumbered by this heavy traffic which crosses the city, resulting in wearing out of roads and contribution to noise and pollution. Requirements concerning dangerous goods and the need of supervising places are increasing. The location of Örebro, in the middle of the logistic corridor between Helsinki and Oslo and in the very middle of the demography of Sweden, makes the area very suitable for a secure and effective resting and parking facility for the heavy traffic. The project idea is to have a 24 hours service centre where heavy vehicles and personal can find the service they need in one place: secure parking areas, parking areas for dangerous goods, reparation, rubber shop, car wash, bus services, and lavatory for drivers, restaurant and shops, import and export services. Truckstop will contribute to a cleaner and less noisy Örebro.
