Recidivism & Anti-Social
Behavior
Three-Strikes Laws are mandatory
sentences for convicted criminals of the
same offense 3 or more times.
 Confiscation of Property – sometimes
the government will take a convicted
felon’s property like in the case with a
drug dealer.
 Monetary Compensation – if someone
loses a civil case, they may be required to
pay the plaintiff a sum of money.

Recidivism & Anti-Social
Behavior

Retribution is the idea that the
punishment should fit the crime.
 Restitution - When a court orders
restitution it orders the defendant to give up
his gains to the plaintiff.
 Deterrence holds that punishment is a
necessary consequence of a crime and
hopefully society will see this punishment
and this will keep other members of society
from committing the same crime.
