eGROUP LESSON PLAN
WEEK 1: APRIL 16
MAIN POINT
Grace is getting what Jesus paid for.
BIBLE STORY
Ephesians 2:4-10
CONNECT
STARTS AT 9.20/11.20 (15 mins)
• Welcome kids to your group and introduce yourself. Introduce them to kids already in the room.
• Ask about their favourite activities or what they have done over the weekend.
SCRAMBLED EGGS
SUPPLIES
5 LOADED EASTER EGGS (BEADS, COTTON BALL, KEY,
PING PONG BALL, ROCK), SCRAMBLED EGGS SHEET, PENS
DESCRIPTION
Pass out Easter eggs. Each egg has a small item inside. Kids will take turns shaking the eggs and guessing what’s
inside. They will write their guesses on the Scrambled Eggs sheet.
Reveal what is in the eggs. Scramble the items and refill the eggs, without letting kids see. Now that kids know
what kind of items are in the eggs, guessing should be easier. Complete a second round of guessing.
EXTRA GAME:
Have kids sit in a circle. Empty all eggs except for the egg with beads in it and give eggs to kids to hold. Choose
someone to be the “Easter bunny.” When the Easter bunny calls, “pass,” everyone holding an egg must pass the
egg to their right. The Easter bunny’s goal is to find the loaded egg by listening for the rattle of the beads. They
only get three “passes” before they have to guess which egg is loaded, and they only get one guess. If they guess
correctly, the person caught with the loaded egg becomes the new Easter bunny. If they don't guess correctly,
the eggs get scrambled and they guess again until they find the loaded egg.
PRIME TIME
STARTS AT 9.35/11.35 (3 MINS)
WHAT IS PRIME TIME?
PRIME TIME allows the eGroup leader to communicate expectations for a positive Motion experience.
SUGGESTED TIME
3 MINUTES
SUPPLIES
NONE
SAY: “Welcome to eGroup! We are so excited to spend Easter with you! You’re not going to believe all
the special things we planned for you today!
We’re going to have a lot of fun, but sometimes I’ll need you to listen for instructions or answer
questions.
So the first thing I want to encourage you to do today is to listen. Always listen for my instructions. I’m
going to keep you safe and help you have an awesome time today!
The second thing is to have fun! During Motion, you’ll have the most fun if you do your best to
participate, answer questions during discussion, and get excited when we worship God!”
TRANSITION TO LARGE GROUP

GROW 1
JUMPING JELLYBEANS
ACTIVITY
SUGGESTED TIME
8-10 MINUTES
SUPPLIES
FLOOR DOTS (TWO OF EACH COLOR)
SAY: “Welcome back to eGroup! How many of you are excited to get your free ice cream after JAM today? How
many of you have ever had an ice cream sundae as big as the one we saw in today’s video? (Allow kids to respond.)
What are your favorite toppings? (Allow kids to respond.)
The best part about the ice cream in the video is it was free! That’s what we’re learning about God’s grace. Grace is
getting something that Jesus paid for. All the things we enjoy - love, happiness, blessings, salvation - we get to
enjoy them for free because Jesus paid for them already!
Do you know how much it cost Jesus? (Allow kids to respond.) Jesus didn’t pay for those things with dollars. He
paid with His life. Jesus died for us and rose again so we could have all those good things for free, if we just ask.
One of the things we get to enjoy on Easter is lollies and chocolate! Raise your hand if you found some jellybeans in
your Easter basket this morning. (Allow kids to respond.) Before we learn more about grace, we are going to play a
game called ‘Jumping Jellybeans.’ Everybody stand on one side of the room, side by side, and wait for more
instructions.”
DO: Play “Jumping Jellybeans.”
• Spread the floor dots out in the middle of the eGroup area.
• The kids are ‘jumping jellybeans.’ Ask them all to pick a color, (COLOR OF FLOOR DOTS).
• The eG leader calls out two colors, and the ‘jellybeans’ who picked that color have to hop to a floor dot.
• The ‘jellybeans’ who do not have a floor dot to stand on are out. They will sit down on the other side of the
eGroup space.
• The eG leader will take away one or two dots each round.
• eG leader will call out colors and remove floor dots until one ‘jellybean’ is left.
• The remaining ‘jellybean’ is the winner!
GROW 2
EPHESIANS 2:4-9
READING & DISCUSSION
SUGGESTED TIME: 8-10 MINUTES
SUPPLIES: BIBLES, BIBLE PASSAGE CARDS, PENS
SAY: “Let’s open our Bibles and read what God has to say about grace. Today we are going to read some verses in Ephesians 2.
But first, let’s talk a little bit about Easter.”
DISCUSS:
• Who knows why we celebrate Easter? (To celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.)
• Why did Jesus die?
• Why do we get so happy that Jesus came back to life?
• If Jesus is stronger than death, what else is he strong enough to do?
SAY: “You might be wondering what the Easter story about Jesus coming back to life has to do with grace. Let’s read in
Ephesians 2 now and find out!”
DO: Help kids find Ephesians 2:4-9 in their Bibles. Read the passage aloud. Read it a second time if you think your group
needs to hear it again. Pass out Bible Passage Cards and pens to aid discussion.
DISCUSS (Year 2-6 only):
• Circle the word grace on your Bible Passage Card. How many times is that word used?
• What do these verses say about grace?
• What other words jump out at you? Draw a star by anything that grabs your attention.
• If grace means getting what Jesus already paid for, then what did Jesus have to pay for so we could be saved?
• We know that Jesus was raised from the dead, but in our verses today, it said that Jesus wants to ‘raise us up with
Him.’ What does that mean? (Our sins made us dead. We couldn’t do anything without God. Jesus wants to raise us up
to live a new life with Him.)
DISCUSS:.
• Verse 9 says grace is a gift .What kind of gifts do you like getting?
• What do you want more than anything in the whole world?
• What would you do if someone offered you the gift you always wanted, and all you had to do was take it?
• What gift does Jesus want to give us? (The gift of salvation - which he already paid for)
• What else do you do when someone gives you a gift? (You use the gift, you are thankful)
SAY: “This year when you’re eating your Easter chocolates, remember that the sweetest gift that God wants to give you is the
gift of salvation. Grace - getting what Jesus already paid for - is what Easter is all about If you have questions about how to ask
God for that gift, talk to me after eGroup today. I’d love to answer your questions!”
GROW 3
JELLYBEANGO
EASTER BINGO
SUGGESTED TIME: 8-10 MINUTES
SUPPLIES: JELLYBEANGO CARDS, JELLYBEANGO GRID, PACKS OF JELLYBEANS
SAY: “Before we begin our last activity, let’s pray and thank God for His gift of grace!”
SUGGESTED PRAYER: “Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that Jesus already paid for our sins and offers us
salvation for free. Help us to accept that gift and start living our new life in you! In Jesus name, Amen.”
SAY: “Our last eGroup activity is ‘Easter Bingo!’ I will call out a number and you will put a jellybean on your bingo
card if you have that number The first person to fill five spaces in a row is the winner! Don’t eat your jellybeans
until we’re done with the game or you’ll run out!”
DO: Hold up Bingo Card and point to the ‘Grace Space’ in the middle.
SAY: “Before we start, who can guess what this space is? (Allow kids to respond.) The ‘Grace Space’ is a free
space, because grace is free. Who can tell me what grace is? (Allow kids to respond. Award anyone who can give
you the definition of grace with another free space.) Grace is getting what Jesus already paid for. All we have to do
to receive salvation, joy, courage, and every good gift from God is ask Jesus for it, because he already bought it for
us! If you have any more questions about grace, I’d love to talk to you before you leave today. Don’t be afraid to
ask questions!”
DO: Pass out bingo cards and packs of jelly beans to each kid.
SAY: “Everybody put a jellybean on the ‘Grace Space’ and get ready to play!”
DO: Play Easter Bingo. Allow kids to eat jelly beans when it is time to clean up the game. Use Jellybeango grid to
keep track of numbers you call out. When you call out a number, cross it off the grid.
