Themulti-eventcollaborationincludesafivemonthlongexhibitiononthehistoryoftheworldrenowneddancecompanyopeningJanuary2016attheGanttCenter,aswellasperformancesinKnight DanceTheatreofHarlemisaleadingdanceinstitutionofunparalleledglobalacclaim,encompassingaperforming Ensemble,aleadingartseducationcenterandDancingThroughBarriers®,anationalandinternationaleducationand communityoutreachprogram.EachcomponentofDanceTheatreofHarlemcarriesasolidcommitmenttowards enrichingthelivesofyoungpeopleandadultsaroundtheworldthroughthearts. Foundedin1969byArthurMitchellandKarelShook,DanceTheatreofHarlemwasconsidered“oneofballet’smost excitingundertakings”(TheNewYorkTimes,1971).ShortlyaftertheassassinationofTheReverendDr.MartinLuther King,Jr.,Mitchellwasinspiredtostartaschoolthatwouldofferchildren—especiallythoseinHarlem,the communityinwhichhewasborn—theopportunitytolearnaboutdanceandthealliedarts.Nowinitsfourth decade,DanceTheatreofHarlemhasgrownintoamulti-culturaldanceinstitutionwithanextraordinarylegacyof providingopportunitiesforcreativeexpressionandartisticexcellencethatcontinuestosetstandardsinthe performingarts.DanceTheatreofHarlemhasachievedunprecedentedsuccess,bringinginnovativeandboldnew formsofartisticexpressiontoaudiencesinNewYorkCity,acrossthecountryandaroundtheworld.
