 Talc
is a mineral made up of hydrated
magnesium silicate
 Talc is also known as Talcum Powder
 Talc is the softest known mineral
 Talc is a widely used product
 Talc
is a widely used product. From garden
pesticides to antacids. However, the Talc is
mostly used in body powders.
 Talc is the main ingredient in baby powder,
medicated powders, perfumed powders
and designer perfumed body powders.
 Talc is used in smaller quantities in
deodorants, chalk, crayons, textiles, soap,
insulting materials, paints, asphalt filler,
paper, and in food processing.
 Talc
can cause severe respiratory problems
if it is inhaled. To prevent this keep away
from your face.
 Talc can also cause ovarian cancer. To avoid
use product without talc like cornstarchbased products.
 Talc can also cause talcum powder
poisoning if it is swallowed or inhaled. This
usually occurs when infants are exposed to
long-term or accidental talc inhalation to
prevent this from happening keep away
from children and your face.
 The
primary treatment is surgery at
which time the cancer is removed from
the ovary and from as many other sites as
possible.
 Chemotherapy is the second modality.
This form of treatment uses drugs to kill
off the cancer cells.
 The third modality is radiation treatment,
which is only used in certain instances.
Seek medical attention immediately. Do NOT
make a person throw up unless told so by Poison
Control or a health care professional.
 If the person breathed in talcum powder
immediately move them to fresh air.
 Before calling emergency determine the
following:
 Patients age, weight, and condition.
 Name of product(as well as ingredients and
strength, if known)
 Time it was swallowed
 Amount swallowed.

