A program designed to reduce your costs while protecting the environment.
In these challenging economic times, organizations large and
small are looking for ways to squeeze every drop of savings
from their operations. In fact, an Ipsos Reid survey released
in October 2008 shows that a whopping 82% of Canadian
small businesses are planning to make adjustments to their
operations for more efficiency and cost-savings.
However, the sluggish economy isn’t all that we have on the
brain. Consumers and businesses alike are also concerned about
the environment – and growing numbers each day are taking
decisive action to help protect our precious natural resources.
Preserving your resources.
Conserving our resources.
So what if we told you there’s a way for you to drive down
your operating costs, improve your bottom line and protect
the environment? Even a few short years ago, some argued
that doing the right thing environmentally is a cumbersome
expense rather than an untapped opportunity for cost reduction.
But today we know better. And we can prove it.
Discover the savings that lie hidden in your tap.
Introducing the Region of Waterloo’s Water Efficient Technology
(W.E.T.) program.
Whether you’re an entrepreneurial or growing business, an
industrial facility, an institution, or a not-for-profit organization
we can help you save money by reducing water costs. In fact,
organizations in Waterloo Region are already reaping the
benefits of the W.E.T. program. Interested in learning how
other organizations are saving money and demonstrating
environmental leadership? Check out our website at
www.region.waterloo.on.ca/water for recent case studies.
In addition to lowering costs and improving operating efficiency,
you’ll also enjoy these benefits as a commercial, industrial, or
institutional facility that reduces water consumption:
• An opportunity to receive W.E.T. funding
to evaluate water use
• Reduced payback periods with funding
• Rebates to help you install water-saving
equipment
• Support to educate staff in the importance
of water efficiency
• Return on your investment

What’s in it for the Region?
This program allows the Region of Waterloo to ease water
demands, conserve natural resources and free up sewer
capacity. Ultimately that means lower costs associated with
water and wastewater services and an improvement to overall
services. That’s good for us, and good for our community.
The choice is yours. Participate
in any or all of the program components.
Water Use Review:
quick, no charge, no commitment
Implement water-saving technology
and receive $40 to $100,000 in funding
More great news – funding is available for a broad range
of water efficiency technologies that prove to reduce water
consumption. That can range anywhere from water efficient
toilets to large installations such as cooling towers or process
retrofits. Receive anywhere from $40 to $100,000 to help
offset your capital costs.
You can start small or go big – it’s up to you. Whatever your
choice, we can help.
Have one of our water efficiency staff come to your site to do
a quick and complimentary evaluation of your current water
efficiency and identify possible opportunities for improvement.
In-depth Water Use Audit –
receive up to $10,000 in funding
The Region will share the cost with you to hire an independent,
qualified consultant of your choice to do an in-depth on-site
assessment. With their full report outlining opportunities to
improve water efficiency, how to implement water-saving
technology, and an estimate of potential savings, the Region
will pay 50% of the cost – that’s up to $10,000 in funding.

Conserving water: make it your business
Did you know?
Reducing water use reduces energy consumption
Water is purified and delivered with pumps powered by
electricity. Then it often has to be pumped again to the
top floor of the building, around the facility, and back to the
sewer. Heating your water, neglecting leaks, and treating
water before it goes to the sewer result in even higher
energy costs. Reduce your water use – and you will
automatically reduce energy consumption.
TRANSPORTATION AND
ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
We all play a role in conserving water. Here are a few
ideas to get you started:
• Educate staff on the importance of water conservation
• Create a water-saving committee that looks for fun
and interesting ways to reduce everyday water use
• Investigate process changes that permanently reduce
water consumption
• Replace older, less efficient equipment with new
water-saving equipment
• Conduct a water audit to identify areas in your business
that could save on water
• Contact Region of Waterloo staff for additional
suggestions at 519-575-4757 ext. 3558
More than ever before, Canadians are rewarding
organizations that practice environmental responsibility.
Demonstrate your environmental stewardship by
signing up for the program today, and enjoy both the
financial and environmental benefits that come with it.
