Mayor’s breakfast celebrates women’s achievements
Moonee Valley Mayor, Cr Andrea Surace, invites the community to join her and her fellow
Councillors for a special breakfast celebrating International Women’s Day.
The breakfast will take place at Council’s Civic Centre on International Women’s Day,
Wednesday, 8 March, from 7am to 8.30am.
Cr Surace said the event is a great opportunity to recognise successful local women and their
contributions to our communities.
“Moonee Valley has strong female representation - 5 of out of our 9 Councillors are women,
and over the past decade, the Mayoral position has been appointed to a female 6 times,
including myself twice!”
The theme for 2017 is “Be Bold For Change” and Cr Surace said she looked forward to
hearing from this year’s guest speakers.
“We will be hearing from Moonee Valley Citizen of the year Jonathon Tarascio’s inspiring story,
Johnathon was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma four years ago, and established the
Green Button Foundation from his hospital bed to support other people with Lymphoma and
other blood cancers.”
“We will also hear from Jacquie Brown from Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, who will talk about
her organisation’s outstanding work improving the lives of people with the disease.”
“This year, $5 from each ticket will go towards the Bourke Street Fund to help support those
who were injured or affected by the Bourke Street tragedy.”
Tickets to Council’s International Women’s Day Breakfast are $60 per person, including buffet
breakfast and $5 donation to the Bourke Street Fund
