Dear broadcasting partner, Welcome to Farm Radio Resource Pack 99! The Pack is entitled: Cassava: The post-harvest value chain. Four of the ten items present information about post-harvest activities in cassava, especially processing and marketing. Two items are broadcaster-how-to docs, three are on beneficial farming practices, and one item focuses on sweet potato processing in Rwanda. Lots of food for thought. Like Pack 96 on growing cassava, this Pack focuses on cassava in Tanzania. But the information will be useful – with appropriate local adaptation – for all cassava-growing areas of Africa. The feature article in Voices introduces each item in the Resource Pack. Voices also presents an article on knowing your audience, and profiles two exciting Farm Radio International projects in Tanzania – a farmers’ poll called Paza Sauti and Radio Boda-boda! Find out more inside. You’ll note that – like last time – this Pack comes with a half-page insert. Please read it and respond! Help us help you by taking a few minutes from your busy day to read and respond. Take your time to read through the pack and think about how you might use the items in your own programs. Maybe you could adapt one of the interviews or use it to produce your own program on cassava processing, adapting it to the conditions – and the regulations! – in your area. Have you talked to cassava farmers, processors and traders lately? This Pack gives you great information to launch a series of interviews with local people. Take note of anything on which you need more local information, and write down any questions you want to ask farmers, processors, traders, extension workers or researchers. Or ask us at Farm Radio! When you’re ready to create a program related to one of the items, we’d love to hear about it! Happy reading and happy broadcasting!
