JOB CONTEXT:
Community Transport Glasgow (CTG) is an enterprising and successful Scottish charity that
delivers high quality, reliable, accessible transport to communities in Glasgow.
Core services are:
• Group Transport – around 180 voluntary organisations have used our services
• Transport Services – commissioned by SPT and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Evening
Hospital Visiting Service and Exercise Classes Transport for Falls Patients) and Glasgow City
Council (transport to and from voluntary clubs)
• Timetabled Services – CTG was voted ‘best new transport initiative 2012’ by Community
Transport Association (Scotland) for its timetabled service in the Drumchapel area
CTG also delivers training and consultancy services and operates a vehicle repair and
maintenance facility to service and maintain its own fleet of 19 minibuses and those of other
community transport operators.
POST AIMS:
The overall aim of this post is to develop more and better transport services in Glasgow and
environs which are accessible to people isolated by location or circumstance in order to improve
their quality of life, including through:

Improving access to community transport provision for community groups and other
agencies working with vulnerable people
The postholder will be responsible for:



Establishing and developing existing local transport hubs in key locations
Helping to promote CTG’s services to communities, funders and other key stakeholders
Identifying new opportunities for CTG products / services in conjunction with other staff
OBJECTIVES AND TARGETS:
Objectives and targets for post include:
Local Hubs (initial focus is on the East, West and South East areas of Glasgow)

To network and liaise with residents and representatives from public and voluntary sector
agencies to gain an understanding of the unmet need for community transport in the area
To investigate the potential for partnership working with other agencies (including local
transport operators) to maximise overall capacity for group transport
To effectively market increased capacity for group transport
To help recruit, support and maintain regular volunteer drivers to match demand
To maintain regular contact with clients and monitor customer satisfaction
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist with the recruitment, training and support / supervision of volunteers for hubs and
projects
 Produce and distribute effective publicity materials for recruiting volunteers for hubs and
projects
 Liaise with colleagues in CTG (including Transport Manager) on recruiting, selecting and
preparing suitable volunteer drivers including regular driver assessments
 Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of drivers whilst volunteering
2. Market hubs and projects effectively
 Encourage use of community transport provision through effective marketing of CTG’s hubs
and projects
3. Implement effective work processes to ensure smooth running of hubs and projects
 Liaise with colleagues in CTG’s office on developing internal processes and procedures
 Explore joint working with other relevant agencies
4. Record, monitor and evaluate the outputs and outcomes of hubs and projects
 Ensure effective recording of new enquiries, referrals, journeys made, volunteers recruited etc
 Identify and address potential service improvements and developments
 Produce monthly progress reports for CTG’s Board and other reports as required
6. Represent CTG at meetings and events as required
 Promote the full range of CTG products and services
In addition to the these duties, the postholder may be required to perform other duties assigned by
the Operations Manager from time to time to ensure the effective operation of the company and the
achievement of its objectives.
AUTONOMY AND DECISION-MAKING:
The post holder is expected to be self-directed and operate with a high level of autonomy within
their own service area and in pursuing agreed outcomes for CTG.

Job performance is guided by objectives set as part of the performance planning and review
process.
COMMUNICATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS:
The main internal contacts of the post are:
 Operations Manager on a monthly basis to discuss performance, review service and plan
forward activity, or as required to discuss specific issues
 Transport Manager as required to support training and assessment of volunteer drivers
 Finance and administration staff as required to support effective day to day operation of the
service
 Volunteer drivers to assess availability, schedule journeys, review service etc
The main external contacts of the post are:
 Local residents and representatives from public and voluntary sector agencies in the East,
West and South East of Glasgow
 Passengers
 Funders
