The Scrip Group currently has a vacancy for the role of Head of Digital Publishing, reporting to
the Managing Director. This role requires a highly experienced digital media professional who
can advise the division on their online strategic options and deliver best practice in the ongoing
management of our online products. In addition, the role will be required to research digital
innovations for the Scrip Group, commercially lead pan-Scrip Group online projects and drive
increased usage of all sites thereby growing online revenues to their full potential.
The Head of Digital Publishing is at the heart of our online offering. By liaising with all the main
stakeholders within the division, they will ensure the sites work, are delivering what the
customer wants (and the content is updated accordingly), have the best digital marketing,
advertising and functionality required and that they are constantly enhanced in response to
customer feedback.
Scrip Intelligence, the flagship product of the Scrip Group, is the leading online news, analysis
and data service for the global pharmaceutical industry. The high value, original, deep,
analytical content is key to helping senior professionals in the industry run their businesses
effectively and it is vital that we deliver this information on a cutting-edge, user-friendly
platform. The new Head of Digital Publishing will be joining us at a crucial moment in the history
of Scrip Intelligence and as part of the MD’s senior management team will be expected to
spearhead this online development.
The Scrip Group is a trading division of Informa Business Information (IBI) which is a leading
online information publisher, delivering high value business information via more than 30 online
information services, managed by nine trading divisions.
Within each division of IBI, an e-business team technically operates and develops these online
information services, supported by the IBI group technology team (for platform and applications
support), the Informa Central IT team (for hosting services), and finally the E-Media team for
online strategy and product management consultancy.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Digital Consulting & Online Innovation Planning:

Advise Scrip Group on its online product strategy and design options where requested or
required.

Assist in the production of, and evaluate, online business plans produced by scrip group
commercial managers, including:






High level site and page designs of new online products
High level project plans
Indicative build costs
Revenue and profit projections
Customer research
Completion of capital expenditure authorisation forms

Deliver online developments and new products to agreed specs and timeframes, identifying
relevant tools and processes from across IBI that could be incorporated

Provide monthly analysis and reporting of web stats and assist editorial, marketing, sales
and product development in acting upon these stats to drive usage further

Track online competitor activity and maintain a strong awareness of online tools and
techniques for driving online traffic, usage and revenues

Commercially evaluate new online technologies that will financially transform the online
operations and product offerings within the Scrip Group.

Lead pan-Scrip Group innovation projects such as mobile content delivery.

Network with other Informa group divisions in regard to online best practices and plans
Best Practice Online Product Management:

To be accountable for the user experience of all products, ensuring adherence with design
and usability practices and alignment with business objectives

Promote and advise upon online best practices in seo, e-zines, statistical reporting, online
advertising, web design and navigation, content collection and management, e-commerce,
audience and usage generation and other key web activities.

Pro-actively work with commercial and product managers of key online products to
maximise revenue and profit potential of these products.

Optimise the application and usage of omniture web usage reporting across the Scrip Group.

Develop KPI’s, benchmarks and scorecards for online product management and ensure all
Scrip Group websites are performing to standard.

Work with editors and publishers to continuously improve the operation, style, layout and
content of our key websites. Ensure all Scrip Group websites are adhering to best practice
web design, style and navigation. Promote innovative online editorial

Ensure all the websites are optimised for SEO

Assist in the roll out of a social media strategy across the Scrip Group

Work with the Advertising manager to improve online advertising revenues through more
sophisticated ads packages and sponsorship opportunities

Maximise cross website template usage across the Scrip Group

Maximise the transfer across the Scrip Group of successful online initiatives
Migration from print to online:

Manage the current hard copy production team

Ensure cross-training between hard copy and e-production teams for holiday cover, etc

Contribute towards long-term strategy for migration of subscribers from print to online and
manage process and team accordingly

Work with Production Manager and editors to ensure hard copy does not detract away from
web offering and instead showcases it
OBJECTIVES

Optimise the potential usage and customer satisfaction of Scrip Group’s web products to
maximise its short term online product revenues and profit.

Optimise the development of new and existing websites across Scrip Group to maximise its
long term online product revenues and profit.

Deliver all Scrip group web projects to time, budget and quality requirements
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Prior experience of successfully advising and influencing senior managers in regard to
online strategy and developments particularly in regard to online b2b publishing

Prior product management and development experience of online media products,
ideally B2B subscription news and/or data services. Must have successfully managed
and grown at least one major online product (minimum £1 million revenue p.a.),
employing transformational online initiatives

Experience of drafting and delivering comprehensive business plans for launching or
redeveloping online publishing or data products

Experience of a wide range of commercial management scenarios in online publishing
and proven ability to employ diverse problem-solving approaches and implement
innovative courses of action

Experience of working with a wide range of online technologies including content
management systems, e-commerce platforms, browsers, banner management systems
and search engines

Knowledge of analytics packages such as Google Analytics, Omniture, etc

The ability to lead online project teams including both technical and commercial staff
and to work with external contractors and agencies

A passion for online publishing and the communication skills required to encourage a
variety of people and teams to embrace online-first publishing

A self-motivated and managing person who is organised, logical, methodical, adaptable,
deadline driven, calm under pressure, and resilient to the stresses of technology
development projects

A perfectionist with an intolerance of complacency and mediocrity, with high attention
to detail and desire for continuous improvement

An entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to make money through innovative online
products.
