High energy and high protein drinks
Food and drinks high in energy and protein
can be useful if you have lost weight recently
without trying, have a poor appetite, or are
finding it hard to eat enough.
Fortified milk
• This can be used in hot or cold drinks, or as
a substitute for milk in your custard, soup
or casseroles.
• To make one cup of fortified milk, add two
tablespoons of milk powder to one cup of
full-cream milk. Whisk together.
• You can use commercial energy powders
such as Sustagen® or Ensure® in place of
milk powder in these recipes.
High energy Milo®
Add two teaspoons of Milo® to one cup of
fortified milk. This can be served hot (warmed
on the stove or in a microwave) or cold (with
a scoop of ice cream). You can try the same
drink using coffee instead of, or as well as,
Milo®.
Readymade supplement
drinks
You can buy ready-made supplement drinks
from supermarkets or chemists.
Banana smoothie
• Blend together a cup of fortified milk, a
banana and a scoop of ice cream – with
honey or sugar to taste.
• You can also add strawberries, blueberries
or mango or any other fruit (fresh, frozen
or tinned).
