Grow Your Own Potatoes Project We would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the Grow Your Own Potatoes Project, run by the British Potato Council. The Grow Your Own Potatoes Project is a fun, hands-on way for children to see how things grow, where food comes from and learn more about the importance of a healthy balanced diet. The project is FREE to take part in and the British Potato Council will provide: Seed potatoes and a £5 voucher to cover the cost of a container and compost Detailed guidance on every stage – inside or outside, planting, watering, harvesting etc. Supporting resources – worksheets, a PowerPoint presentation and lesson ideas to link the project to the formal curriculum. Advice on how to get publicity for your school for taking park in the project. ALSO: All school that take part receive a certificate Schools can join the challenge to grow the biggest weight of potatoes from the seed potatoes provided. There is the chance to win a digital camera and runners up prizes of gardening equipment vouchers. Extra prizes for schools who want to grow a second potato variety – a digital camera is on offer for the school that grows the heaviest weight of potatoes in this category.
