Anesthesia-Mouse Monitor anesthesia to ensure an appropriate depth. Anesthesia must be deep enough to provide adequate analgesia to the animal; however, excessive anesthetic depth is detrimental and may result in the animal’s death. Monitoring cardiovascular and respiratory parameters, temperature, muscle tone, and muscle reflexes allow the anesthetist to ensure appropriate anesthetic depth. All drugs are subject to varying availability and cost, and should be well researched prior to addition to protocol. It is also recommended (and in some cases required) that drugs be kept fresh and shielded from light sources.
