Results of the water’s analysis Reference values: - Escherichia coli (≤200 UFC/100ml) - Streptococchi (≤ 500 UFC/100ml) ! Milazzo’s beach: -‐ Sample taken on the 8th of March: Streptococchi (>200 UFC/100ml); Escherichia coli (>500 UFC/100ml) -‐ Sample taken on the 27th of March: : Streptococchi (>200 UFC/100ml); Escherichia coli (>500 UFC/100ml) We can see that both results are higher than the reference values, which means that the quantity of bacteria is too high. So, the beach water is always inappropriate and dangerous to swim in. ! Giammoro’s beach: -‐ Sample taken on the 8th of March: Streptococchi (190 UFC/100ml); Escherichia coli (280 UFC/100ml) -‐ Sample taken on the 27th of March: : Streptococchi (>200 UFC/100ml); Escherichia coli (>500 UFC/100ml) In the first experiment, the values mean that people are able to swim in the seawater, whereas in the second experiment the results show that the quantity of bacteria is higher than the reference values and we conclude that the water is inadequate for swimming . We cannot exactly know why there is a large difference between the two results. But we can make hypothesis: it can be due to the waves created by the windy weather, to a difference industrial activities, or could be due to the water’s temperature. ! Calderà’s beach: -‐ Sample taken on the 8th of March: Streptococchi (>200 UFC/100ml); Escherichia coli (>500 UFC/100ml) -‐ Sample taken on the 27th of March: : Streptococchi (>200 UFC/100ml); Escherichia coli (510 UFC/100ml) In both experiments, the results are higher than the reference values. The beach water is on these two days inappropriate and dangerous to swim in.
