GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS
PIONEER FOODS:
•
•
•
•
Recognises the contribution that modern biotechnology can make
towards the availability, quality and nutritional value of food and therefore
supports scientific research in this field;
Will consider the responsible use of genetically modified (GM) raw
materials and their application in food in line with our strategy and market
demands;
Is committed to providing its customers with affordable, nutritious,
high-quality and safe foods; and
Strictly adheres to Labelling and Consumer Protection Regulations,
providing consumers with information as required.
APPLICATION PRINCIPLES – SASKO DIVISION

Protection Regulations, the following principles are implied:
1. Acceptance of the Consumer Protection Act and its prescription on genetically
modified organisms labelling
2. Transparent interpretation of Regulation 7 on a per ingredient basis
3. Abidance as applicable to compulsory clauses without change
4. No negative GM claims to be made in instances where a product contains a
certified GM-free ingredient
5. Cost-effective and practical verification of GM content as applicable
6. Where statement (5) above is possible and confirms positively the presence of
a listed GM ingredient in any Sasko product, and in accordance
with Regulation 7(5), the following notice will accompany such ingredient
without change: ‘Produced using genetic modification’
7. Where statement (5) above is not practical or feasible and cannot confirm
positively the presence of a listed GM ingredient in any Sasko product, and in
accordance with Regulation 7(8), the following notice will accompany such
ingredient without change: ‘May contain genetically modified ingredients’
