Click on the Animal Cell Tutorial and complete the following:
Cell are like little cities in which each organelle has a job to do. Highlight each organelle by clicking on
the purple words at the bottom of the screen and read about each structure’s job. In the table below
write down the analogy (ex. “Power Plant”) and function of the organelle.
Organelle
Analogy
Plasma membrane
ribosome
mitochondrion
nucleus
Golgi apparatus

Go back to home page and click Plant Cell Tutorial. Answer the following questions regarding the
organelle of interest by clicking on the corresponding structure highlighted in blue at the bottom of the
screen.
1. What is the plant cell wall and how does it maintain the cell’s shape? What analogy is given for
the cell wall?
2. Describe the function of the chloroplast. What is the analogy given for the chloroplast?
3. In detail explain how the chloroplast is similar to the mitochondrion in both structure and
function.
4.
What analogy is used for the large, central vacuole? List all the substances that a vacuole will
store. Why does a vacuole store waste products?
5. What happens to the plant if it loses water?
6. What is the analogy of the perioxisomes in plants? What do these structures do for plants?
7. Make two lists, structures that both plant and animal share and structures that are only found in
plant cells.
Play the Game to master the plant cell organelles. Continue to play until your score is 100%.
Return to home page and click on the Bacteria Tutorial.
Highlight each bacterial structure by clicking on the word in orange at the bottom of the screen and
reading about each structure’s job. In the table below write down the analogy and function for each
structure.
