JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:
Physiotherapy Assistant
DEPARTMENT:
Physiotherapy
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Physiotherapy Manager
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
(Overall Objectives)




To assist physiotherapy staff in maintaining a safe and clean hydrotherapy
environment
To assist physiotherapy staff in implementing treatment programmes for
patients.
To administer stock including mobility aids and order supplies as required.
To undertake related administrative duties
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Clinical











To exchange information with patients and staff to ensure a unified approach
to patient care.
Use skills acquired through in-house training to evaluate current patient status
and to check mobility aids and equipment for patient use.
To order supplies and maintain stock control.
To follow procedures and implement treatment plans within a physiotherapy
programme of care.
To maintain patient confidentiality at all times
To record personally generated information to update patient records
To test and clean electrotherapy equipment weekly.
To participate in hydrotherapy treatment sessions.
To monitor and record pool chemistry, temperature and humidity on a daily
basis and report major variations to the HOD.
To ensure adequate clean linen is available in the physiotherapy/hydrotherapy
treatment areas and that couch covers and pillow cases are changed regularly.
To ensure that the gym equipment is cleaned weekly

To participate in the in-service teaching regimes and staff development
programmes.
To cover the physiotherapy reception desk when required.
Service Development


To individually market and promote the Department within the Hospital and
the local community.
To participate in any public/PR events promoting the Department.
General











To assist in the day-to-day efficient management of the physiotherapy service.
To report all accidents and complaints to the HOD in accordance with hospital
policy.
To keep the HOD informed of any changes in work pattern within the
Hospital.
To report any equipment malfunctions and identified health and safety hazards
to the manager/health and safety manager in accordance with hospital policy.
To understand and abide by the Department’s philosophy, policies, procedures
and objectives.
To attend annual relevant mandatory training.
To adhere to The Health and Safety at Work Act.
To adhere to Fire Action Policy.
To be aware of Disciplinary / Grievance Procedure.
To be aware of Company policies and guidelines.
To read and sign all policies issued to the department in accordance with the
Care Standards Act 2000.
