Shannon Freeman became a member of DEAWRA in late 2014 during a time when he was
planning a new career in the water resources sector. Shannon is currently studying
Environmental Engineering Technologies as a full time student at Delaware Technical
Community College. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and an Executive
Board Member of the Student Government Association. Mr. Freeman’s professional career prior
to returning to school includes being a crew member aboard the University of Delaware’s
research vessel, family farming and agricultural production, owner of a custom carpentry and
furniture business, and manager of the shop and maintenance operations for a multi-national
contractor servicing the energy sector. Mr. Freeman is active in several curricular and
extracurricular pursuits. He volunteers with the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary and
Winterthur Gardens, and he works with the Student Services Department at Del Tech.
Throughout his studies as a returning adult student, he has developed spreadsheets to compare
vehicle fuel efficiency, calculate residential electricity consumption, project cost savings, and has
completed an extensive residential energy audit. He is confident in his ability to handle
DEAWRA’s accounting methods, provide the required monthly and annual reports, and satisfy
other duties of the position of Treasurer. Mr. Freeman is looking to become more involved in
the local water resources sector is excited for the opportunity to offer his experience and
dedication. He looks forward to the opportunity to come on board during a time when he could
be an asset to DEAWRA while assisting with the planning of the upcoming Mid Atlantic
Conference here in Wilmington.
As a member of the Delaware Chapter of AWRA and a concerned member of our local
community, Mr. Freeman is a credible candidate for the position of Treasure of DEAWRA for
the next term.
