Igneous Rocks
Rocks that form when natural, molten (liquid)
rock-forming material cools into a solid
Liquid rock BENEATH Earth’s surface
is called magma
When magma comes out onto or above
Earth’s surface it becomes LAVA
When magma solidifies beneath Earth’s solid
surface the rocks are called INTRUSIVE
When lava solidifies on or above Earth’s
solid surface the resulting rock is EXTRUSIVE
