Summary of Seminars
1. PROTECTING THE COMBATIVE PATIENT AND YOURSELF! Violent situations occur in the
workplace every day, however most of the time they are not noticed before they happen and are
rarely reported. It is best to be prepared for the violence, whether it is physical or verbal:
understanding your situational awareness and knowing the signs of a violent person will help
protect the patient and yourself. - Paul J Head, Security Manager
2. HIPAA HOOPLA! In this seminar we will discuss and define what HIPAA is and why it is in place.
The main areas we will focus on are Privacy, Security, and Electronic Data Interchange
transactions. You will journey through real life cases of organizations being “BUSTED” and find
out what penalties they received (get your pocket book out!). We will clarify what is expected of
you as a healthcare professional and make you aware of what “really” classifies as a HIPAA
violation (gossip, sharing, social media). You will surely be surprised! - Julie Ostrowski RT (R),
ISSRT President Elect , Conference Chair
3. CHILD ABUSE: This presentation focuses on the physical signs of child abuse documented by
diagnostic medical imaging and the role and responsibilities of the radiographer. Covering topics
such as: Battered Child Syndrome, Demographics of Child Abuse, Cycle of Violence, Injuries
Specific for Physical abuse, Protocol: Diagnostic Medical Imaging and Role and Responsibilities of
the Radiographer. - Paul F. Laudicina, MA, RT (R) FASRT

EVER this presentation will be seen. Paul Laudicina a good friend of the ISSRT is retiring. You do
not want to miss this awe shocking presentation! This lecture focuses on unusual, atypical, and oneof-a-kind radiologic findings represented within all the diagnostic imaging modalities. Included will be
artifacts, normal variants, congenital and developmental malformations, diseases & conditions, and
foreign bodies. Paul F. Laudicina, MA, RT (R), FASRT
5. WHO ME? BREAST CANCER CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE: Are you at risk? Find out who is as you learn about
the pathologic process of breast cancer and the diagnostic procedures used to identify it; Diagnostic test
such as mammography, ultrasound and MRI. What makes a normal mammogram normal and an
abnormal one abnormal? Find out the answers as well as the different options in intervention and
treatment. Learn the risk factors, as well as the different support services for those diagnosed with breast
cancer. What happens next? What kind of life is there after breast cancer? Who Me…could be you! –
Cathie Kukec B.M.E., RT (R)(QM
6. PASS IT THE FIRST TIME: Assessing the content of the certification exam and one’s own
strengths and weaknesses are keys to a successful outcome. This presentation will lead
students through the process of test preparation, knowledge of test content, and how to
manage the test-taking experience. SECOND YEARS, YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS!!!!
- William J. Callaway, M.A., R.T. (R)
7. AND YOU THOUGHT PHYSICS HAD TO BE BORING! Though student radiographers and
technologists use these principles and equipment every day, it is one of the least favorite
topics they had to learn. This fun and lively presentation changes that with a review of
the physics and equipment of x-ray production in ways they will never forget. This is a
great review for the Registry exam! LAUGH ALL THE WAY TO THE REGISTRY!!!! - William
J. Callaway, M.A., R.T. (R)
8. ATTENTION EDUCATORS: EDUCATORS MEETING WITH JRCERT: Accreditation 101. This
presentation will increase participants’ knowledge of the accreditation process and its role in
securing quality assurance in professional education. This will be a time to ask your questions, with a
JRCERT specialist. - Brian J. Leonard, R.T(R) Accreditation Specialist
9. FORENSIC RADIOLOGY: This lecture focuses on the “job” qualifications and job description of
someone working in the environment of a Medical Examiner’s or County Coroner Office. Topics
such as, coroner cases, documentation, responsibilities of the radiographer and requirements
will be covered. This is a unique branch of radiology you do not want to miss. - PAUL F.
LAUDICINA, MA, RT (R), FASRT
10. PROTECT THE PARTS! THERE IS NO WARRANTY. The purpose of this seminar is to educate and
inform radiologic technologists and student radiographers of the challenges facing solid organ
transplant patients. More hospitals are performing transplant surgery. Organ recipients often go
their community hospitals and clinics for both routine and emergent care post transplantation.
Radiographers will be presented with some of the challenges faced by recipients. This seminar
covers some of the main effects of immune-suppression medications, infection control, the use of
contrast media post transplantation and the increased risk of various cancers among recipients. It
will also explain the concerns many organ recipients have regarding repeated imaging and
radiologic procedures. - Sue Bertellotti, BS, RT(R)(M), Co-Conference Chair
11. RAPID FIRE: PROFESSIONAL PANEL: This will be an open forum for RT, Educators and Students to ask
the professionals. We will have a variety of professionals ready to answer your questions. We will
begin with a few clinical scenarios and educational scenarios to get this going – but once it starts you
can be sure it will be a room of rapid fire questions – where the audience controls the room! This is
sure to be a crowd pleaser, come spend time with some of the brightest and best in the profession.
