Birth and Beyond' antenatal courses
by women from the BME communities who reside in the
Rossendale Longholme ward.
BACKGROUND / CONTEXT:
It has been identified by Rossendale CYPT that there have been have been an increased number of Sudden
or Unexpected Deaths in Infants (SUDI) amongst the BME community in the Longholme Ward area of
Rossendale.
The Priorities identified by the sub group are:
1. to encourage expectant families from this community to access antenatal services early on in and
throughout pregnancy
2. to promote their attendance on 'Blooming Bumps' and 'From Bump to Birth and Beyond' antenatal
courses
3. to encourage them to use the Birthing Centre located at the Rossendale Primary Health Care Centre
in order to:
 ensure their babies are born healthy and have the best possible physical and emotional start in life
 improve the health of these women prior to and during pregnancy
 give them every opportunity in the first year of babies' lives to ensure good health and wellbeing over
the longer term

On behalf of Balladen Children's Centre and Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust I am asking for a total of
£2920.00 to cover the cost of training Community Health Champions; producing the fold-out leaflet to issue to
women when they book in with their midwife; and the cost of staffing a total of 8 antenatal sessions targeted at
the BME community.
