Government Response Based on the key findings and recommendations of the 2011 Gas Market Review, the Queensland Government made the following response: i. intervention in the market to secure domestic gas supply through the development of a Prospective Gas Production Land Reserve will not be implemented at this time; ii. the Minister for Employment, Skills and Mining will write to gas producers seeking detailed advice and confirmation of the resources being committed to drilling and appraisal programs to provide reserves for new domestic contracting in the period 2011 to 2015 for gas supply in the period 2015 to 2020 and the timeline for producer engagement with domestic customers regarding future gas supply; iii. the Government remains committed to an efficient Queensland gas market; iv. the issue of incremental pipeline capacity expansions will be raised for review through the appropriate jurisdictional forums; v. the Government will work through the Standing Council for Energy and Resources (SCER), the Gas Market reform process and with stakeholders to settle a gas supply trading market design for implementation in Queensland by 2015; vi. opportunities to work with the New South Wales Government and the industry to facilitate the development of improved gas infrastructure interconnections and lever the market benefits of a gas supply trading market will be considered; vii. consideration will be given to improving gas distribution network utilisation by moving customers using coal to gas; viii. existing Queensland petroleum and minerals legislation will be reviewed to ensure the provision of a solid legislative foundation for future investment in and operation of dedicated gas storage facilities in Queensland; and ix. the final 2011 Gas Market Review and Government actions in response will be released to the DEEDI website and gas market stakeholders.
