Augusto Gutierrez-Aitken
He received a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1994. His doctoral research focused on InP-based highperformance integrated photoreceivers for applications in optical communication
systems. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Solid State Electronics
Laboratory, University of Michigan, from 1994 to 1996, where he worked on high-speed
InP-based lasers. In 1996, he joined Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS),
Redondo Beach, CA, He is an NG Technical Fellow and is currently the PI for the
DARPA DAHI program at NGAS. He has managed several advanced technology
development programs and qualified these technologies for flight and space use. He has
co-authored more than 150 publications and conference presentations and holds eleven
patents in the area of high performance compound semiconductor devices. He was the
recipient of the SPIE 2000 Technology Achievement Award and the 2001 Hispanic
Engineer Outstanding Technical Achievement National Award. In 2003 he was inducted
to the Space Foundation’s Space Technology Hall of Fame.
