Fundraising Portals Grant Programmes Crowd Funding Loans/Community Shares PORTALS NCVO Funding Central http://www.fundingcentral.org.uk A great free website run by NCVO that allows you to key in what your project works on and then will provide you with a list of relevant funders. Directory For Social Change http://www.governmentfunding.org.uk/default.aspx http://www.trustfunding.org.uk/default.aspx Two very good subscription sites run by Directory For Social Change that allow you to search for relevant funding/trusts depending on your work, beneficiaries etc. However, they’re a not cheap. UK Community Foundations www.ukcommunityfoundations.org Community foundations are local organisations which support causes active in their area. There are 50 community foundations in England. You can search for your local community foundation on the UKCF website, the umbrella organisation for all community foundations. Locality http://mycommunityrights.org.uk/ For those of you who are highly engaged with the community or a run by community members Locality provide a “portal” to various funding government opportunities to assist you since the Localism Act was introduced. Rights introduced under this act included community right to build, community right to bid, community right to challenge and neighbourhood planning. GRANT PROGRAMMES Power to Change http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/powertochange A fund of £150 million will be available as of autumn 2014 for all organisations involved in community engagement projects. Currently applications are not yet open but there is a prospectus available and potential applicants are urged to contact Big Lottery and let them know about their work. Reaching Communities www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/global-content/programmes/england/reaching-communitiesengland The Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities funding is for projects that help people and communities most in need. Grants are available from £10,000, upwards and funding can last for up to 5 years. There is a specific strand to support projects that improve or replace existing buildings where a wide range of community activities take place. Awards for All www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/global-content/programmes/england/awards-for-all-england The Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All gives groups a quick and easy way to get small Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000. They want to fund projects which address the issues, needs and aspirations of local communities and people and will fund a wide range of community projects aimed at developing skills, improving health, revitalising the local environment and enabling people to become more active citizens. Veteran Accommodation Fund https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/veterans-accommodation-fund/veteransaccommodation-fund-what-you-need-to-know-armed-forces-covenant The Armed Forces Covenant - Veterans Accommodation Fund delivers financial support to projects which support the aims of the Armed Forces Covenant and specifically Veterans with a housing need. The Veterans Accommodation Fund is a one off scheme which will only run in 2014. The Chancellor allocated up to £40 million which will be allocated by a panel which comprises of MOD representatives, the Treasury, Devolved Administrations, representatives from the COBSEO Housing cluster, The Royal British Legion and the Families Federations. Prospectus and application forms are now available DCLG Community Project Support Fund – Revenue Funding Administered By The HCA http://www.homesandcommunities.co.uk/community-led-project-support The Community Led Project Support Programme broadens the scope of the original Community Right to Build programme which provided an alternative way for communities to deliver the development they want – be it homes, shops, businesses or facilities – where the benefits of the development will be retained by the community for the community. There is £14m available over the next two years (2013-2015) for communities in England (excluding Greater London). This will allow community groups to bid for revenue funding where they need help and support to bring forward proposals which require planning application. Further details and the application form are available on the HCA website (see above) and in addition Locality have been engaged to provide assistance to interested organisations. www.mycommunityrights.org.uk CROWDFUNDING/FUNDRAISING PLATFORMS Buzzbnk www.buzzbnk.org Buzzbnk is a crowdfunding platform specifically established to enable social ventures, including both charities and social enterprises to raise grants and loans from supporters and others interested in helping make the project happen. Loans can be interest free, pay interest at a fixed rate or with a revenue share. All supporters may be offered some sort of benefit in return for their support, and these benefits are designed to engage the supporters more in the project or more generally in the work of the organisation. INVESTMENTS/SHARES Big Society Capital http://www.bigsocietycapital.com/finding-the-right-investment/ Directory Of Social Investors & Organisation Offering Business Support: This is an excellent Directory dealing with organisations offering loans and social investment which anyone would be hard pressed to better. Not only is it very comprehensive in terms of listing a huge number of organisations (c140) , but when you click on the name of the organisation a text box appears with the website address and the key information about the organisation. For example: Type of support: Finance For whom: Social enterprises; charities; voluntary and community organisations; social businesses; cooperatives/mutuals Specific eligibility criteria: Organisations with a track record and a plan to increase trading income and deliver high social impact Type of finance: Secured loans; unsecured loans; equity; quasi equity Funding for: Property purchase; other asset/equipment purchase; working capital; development capital; risk capital Finance available: £50,000 - £1,000,000 The Investment and Contract Readiness Fund http://www.beinvestmentready.org.uk/ The £10m Investment and Contract Readiness Fund enables social ventures to access new forms of investment and compete for public service contracts. If you were tempted to try and raise some money, perhaps via a bond, then it’s possible to get funding here to cover the cost of setting it up. Grants between £50,000 and £150,000 will be available on a rolling basis to ambitious social ventures who will go on to raise at least £500,000 investment, or who want to bid for contracts over £1 million. The Community Shares Unit www.communityshares.org.uk The Community Shares Unit is a dedicated support service for those interested in and involved with community share offers. Delivered by Co-operatives UK and Locality and backed by the Department for Communities and Local Government, it offers introductory advice for community enterprises considering or developing share offers, supporters who are interested in purchasing shares and advisers who provide support and assistance to enterprises considering and developing share offers.
