ecosystem.

• Primary Succession
– Establishment of a community of living
organisms in an area where there was
no life.
– Example: volcanic eruption
– Pioneer species: lichens
• Secondary Succession
– Establishment of new species after a
disturbance.
– Example: fire, hurricane, logging,
agriculture
– Pioneer species: grasses
