Geography
Tropical rainforests are found in locations that
get large amounts of rain
 rainforests are know for there life forms such
as numerous amounts of trees, plants such as
ferns , and an abundance amount of insects,
spiders snakes, monkeys, and other plants and
animals
 they are important to the health of the
planet, and they are responsible for replenishing
an enormous portion of the atmosphere’s
oxygen supply
Plants/ coconut tree

 Tropical rainforests have 160,000 of the estimated
250,000 species of plants on earth

Coconut tree
- they grow to 50-80 feet tall
- the smallest coconut tree is a dwarf palm
- coconut tree leaves are 15-17 feet long
- they grow in rainforests and other tropical areas
- one tree can produce 50 coconuts
Strangler Fig
Stranger Figs
 they can be found in every major rainforest,
tropical continent, and islands
FIGS ARE CONSIDEREDA KEYSTONE SPEICES
BECAUSE THEY ARE SO IMPORTANT TO THE
ANIMALS OF THE RAINFOREST
FIGS BEAR FRUIT SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR.
DIFFERENT SPECIES OF FIGS FRUIT AT DIFFERENT
TIMES SO THAT THERE IS ALWAYS A SUPPLY OF FOOD
FOR ANIMALS THAT DEPEND ON FRUIT AS A MAJOR
PART OF THE DIET
Animal life
There is estimated over 50 million species of insects
alone in the tropical rainforests
 Because there are so many species of animals… there
is always competition for food, sunlight and space
 some animals have adapted to their environment so
well that they are specialized. Such as toucans that eat
nuts because their beak has adapted
 a four square foot mile patch of rainforest contains as
many as 1500 species of flower plants, 750 species of
trees, 125 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, 100
species of reptiles, 60 species of amphibians, and 150
species of butterfly.
