SPECIAL GAMES – February will host Junior Fund games. There will also be another GNT game
on Saturday, Feb 25th. (Besides the chance of qualifying to play in the GNT finals, it is a chance
for our newer players to become familiar with the strategy of playing Swiss teams). Reminder
– our SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT is in March).
SUNDAY MENTOR SESSIONS – This program is very successful! 17 tables showed up this past
month. Kim Martin is going to put a signup sheet in the entry and if you know you will be
attending (next one 2/19), please sign up. This will help her know how many mentors will be
needed. Note- even if you don’t get a chance to sign up, you may still attend.
NEW OFFICERS – BOARD – This year’s officers are: Don Lassiter – President; Jean Davis – VicePresident; Marsha McCrory – Secretary; and Bruce Bedient – Treasurer.
THANK YOU – We appreciate the many years that Gretchen Smith compiled all the statistics
for our games – High Averages and games for both individuals and pairs. This is a time
consuming job. Marilyn Goodrich has volunteered to continue compiling these statistics.
LIBRARY NEWS – Our library (right off the kitchen) has grown by leaps and bounds this past
month. A bridge player from Hilton Head, John McLean died and has a son in Charlotte. He
looked up and found our club and recently donated 4 “excellent” books.
Josuha and Jordana Starr (Michael’s son and daughter) packed up two large boxes of Michael’s
collection of bridge books. As you can guess, there is an excellent selection!
Veda Roberts has also donated a large selection of some very nice bridge books.
Due to lots of hard work, Charlie Babcock who is now our librarian has put the library in
wonderful shape. He has also listed all these recent donated books and has the lists posted on
the green “board” when you walk in the door. If you need any information, please talk to
Charlie. These books are available for checking out for all our members.

MEMBER NEWS – We are glad to have June Peach back. June suffered with a bleeding ulcer.
Pat LaCroix suffered a heart attack. Hopefully, Pat is doing well with her recovery. She is
recovering at her daughter’s in Boston. Joe Walden is in Hampton, VA and is going thru a
series of treatments for his cancer. Word is that he is still managing his free time to play bridge
at the club there. Our thoughts and prayers are with Pat and Joe.
