Flag 1
1. The Red Cross in the middle represents the cross of St. George. The red
diagonal cross represents the cross of St. Andrew and the blue also
represents Scotland.
2. The flag represents the UK as a nation because it includes all of the
countries that are included in the UK in one flag. This is an example of a
geographic understanding of nation since the flag brings various countries
together in different colors and patterns.
Flag 2
1. The colors on the flag are said to have been based off of the colors of the
French flag. And the blue cross represents Norway’s link to the other
Scandinavian countries.
2. Red white and Blue, the three colors of that make up the flag represent
freedom and independence similar to the Union Jack and the United
States flag.
3. The flag represents a geological understanding of nation since its design
links it with the other Scandinavian countries. Not only geological but also
a political understanding since the colors represent freedom and
independence.
Flag 3
1. The red in the flag represents Saint George’s cross and the white, from
the French royal emblem.
2. The flag signifies the maple leaf, some say the 11 points on the leaf
represent the provinces, but that is not true. The flag was inspired from the
military uniforms of ww2, since the maple flag was featured on the
uniform.
3. The Canadian flag has an understanding of nation as a relationship to
land. The maple leaf in the middle shows that the maple leaf is common in
Canada and the maple tree is a common resource.
