JOB DESCRIPTION
ANA-MAINE Executive Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Executive Director acts as the administrative agent for ANA-Maine and is
responsible for the implementation of all the programs and policies of the ANA-Maine.
This is a part-time position working from a virtual office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
 Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Maine.
 Active member of ANA and state’s nursing associations, preferred.
 Baccalaureate degree in nursing, required: Master’s in nursing, MBA or related
field preferred. .
 Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
 Prior leadership experience in nursing or related health field.
 Knowledge of current health care and nursing issues: state, national, and
international.
 Knowledge of legislative procedure and parliamentary law.
 Public speaking and advocacy experience.
 Ability to travel, both in and out of state, & attend national meetings.
 Strong financial acumen
 Association management skills
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supports and guides the mission and guiding principles of ANA-Maine.
2. Implements the ANA- Maine strategic plan
3. Builds and sustains ANA-Maine membership.
4. Maintains and develops non-dues revenue sources.
5. Maintains and/or establishes a system for the collection and dispensing of
records reports and publications.
6. Transacts financial affairs for ANA-Maine with the Treasurer and assists with the
preparation of the annual budget.
7. Provides orientation of new officers and committee chairpersons.
8. Coordinates and participates in activities and programs with the NE MSD as
appropriate.
9. Collaborates with Executive Directors from NE MSD
10. Attends ANA-Maine committee meetings when appropriate.
11. Attends MSD related meetings when appropriate.
12. Participates in coordination of programs developed by ANA-Maine (such as:
Annual Meeting, Legislative Day and educational programs).
13. Builds and sustains relationships with other nursing coalitions in the State
14. Represents ANA-Maine at state & national meetings.
A. Promotes awareness of nursing needs and resources within the State of
Maine.
B. Prepares and channels ANA-Maine communications to all nurses and
other health groups within the state, to the American Nurses Association,
and other relevant organizations.
15. Registers as lobbyist in the State of Maine, and lobbies as the voice of nurses in
the state.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reports to the ANA-Maine Board of Directors
Performance is evaluated by the ANA-Maine Board of Directors annually.
The Mission of ANA-MAINE is to work for the improvement of health standards and
availability of health care services for all Maine people, to foster high standards for
nursing, and to stimulate and promote the professional development of nurses.
We advocate for financial and environmental conditions that promote recruitment and
retention of nurses in the health care systems of Maine. ANA-MAINE supports the
American Nurses Association's Standards of Nursing Practice and the ANA Code of
Ethics for Nurses.

design, personal/social factors, physical environments and organizational cultures.

Intent: Establish data that links positive patient outcomes to nursing interventions.
