Find the RIGHT Job
One-Stop-Shop:
LexisNexis WSRSL ‘My School’ Page:
Access this page by: 1) going to www.lexisnexis.com/lawschool , 2) signing-in,
and 3) clicking on the “My School” tab.
Alternatively, visit the page directly at: LexisNexis WSRSL My School Page
The LexisNexis WSRSL ‘My School’ page provides links to nearly all firms that conduct Fall
and/or Spring OCI’s. This page also has links to Search Forms that let you quickly retrieve
listings of firms of specific sizes from particular cities, counties or states. You can also focus
on firms that practice in specific areas of law. In addition, the site has links to forms that let
you retrieve listings of in-house counsel positions & non-profit legal organizations.
Note that for each law firm listed on the WSRSL ‘My School’ page, there is a link that will run
a search in one of three areas: Martindale-Hubbell, News and Case Law. The MartindaleHubbell links will provide you with a summary of your interviewer’s background. The news
links will help you learn what’s been happening at the firm lately. The caselaw links will give
you a taste of the firm’s recent focal points by showing you recent trial & appellate decisions !
Searching for a Great Job

Law Firms by Size, Location &/or Practice Area: Utilize
Martindale-Hubbell – LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell has a fantastic search form that
makes it EASY to find firms that meet your size, location & practice area interests. Utilize the form by
visiting the LexisNexis WSRSL My School page or clicking on the following link: “Search for Firms
by Practice Areas, Location and/or Firm Size”.
Search Tip#1 – “Look For: Law Firms Only”: I highly recommend selecting “Law Firms
Only” at the top of the search form. This selection will limit your search results to one listing for each
office of a firm. This listing will include each attorney in that office.
Search Tip#2 – Focusing on a Practice Area – atleast# (practice area name): Weed out
the firms that really practice a particular area of law from those that simply state that they practice in a
particular area. Launch a search using the form & specifying a practice area. Then, click the ‘Focus’
link. Enter atleast# (practice area name) (e.g. – atleast4 (intellectual property) (I used atleast4, but you
can use any number). This ‘Focus’ search will limit your results to firms who have several attorneys
who work in that practice area or at least one attorney who primarily works in that practice area.
Search Tip#3 – Finding a Primary Contact – “Ctrl + F (your home town or
undergraduate school)”: If you do not know anyone at the firm, search the Martindale-Hubbell
listing for a good primary contact (someone with whom you share a common interest or background).
The partner or employee who heads up the firm’s hiring program is often NOT your best contact. It’s
often much better to find someone else who will serve as a ‘champion’ of your resume/application (i.e.
someone who will go to the hiring personnel & fight to bring you on-board). You may be able to find
such a champion by sending your resume to someone who specializes in a particular practice area, went
to your undergraduate school or was born in your hometown. Search the Martindale-Hubbell listing by
holding down the “Ctrl” button on your keyboard while holding down the “F” key.

In-House Counsel Positions by City, County, State or Country:
Utilize Martindale-Hubbell – While In-House Counsel Departments often hire
only attorneys with experience, these departments do occasionally hire summer
associates. LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell has a fantastic search form that makes it
EASY to find In-House Counsel Departments. Utilize the form by visiting the
LexisNexis WSRSL My School page or by clicking one of the following links: “Search
for In-House Counsel Positions” or “All Hawaii - Martindale-Hubbell In-House Counsel Listings”.

Additional LexisNexis Career Development Resources:
LexisNexis
has a wealth of Career Development resources, including international listings. You can
access a vast number of resources by logging-onto the LexisNexis Research System and
then going to the following folder or clicking on the following links:
Legal > Reference > Career Development.
Preparing for an Interview

Expertise of Firm & Interviewer: Utilize Martindale-Hubbell –
Martindale-Hubbell summarizes each firm’s practices areas and main clients, as well as the
background & email address of each attorney in the firm. All info listed on one page for
easy review/searching. Martindale-Hubbell also provides a link to each firm’s website.

Current Endeavors of Firm: Search Nationwide News –
LexisNexis has one of the biggest news databases in the world (if not the biggest
database). The news databases are updated every day and therefore, serve as great
resources for discovering what a firm is doing NOW. .

Recent Focal Points of Firm: Court Opinions –
Be sure to search for recently published & unpublished opinions in which the firm was
counsel. Each opinion generally represents a major client matter recently handled by the
firm. Note that most matters are settled before trial. Therefore, court opinions represent
only a slice of a firm’s litigation activities.
