BN6 Kidz First Emergency Care: Key skills: assessing children, planning outcomes,
taking of vital signs, accurate documentation, working and communicating with
whanau/families and the healthcare team, measuring and administering medications,
ECG’s, infection control procedures, use of inhalers and spacers, blood sugar testing,
patient education and follow up, urine testing, cultural safety and observing procedures.
BN5 Eastcare A & M, Botany: Key skills: maintaining confidentiality, upholding
patients rights, the taking of vital signs (understanding and educating patients on any
fluctuations), blood sugar testing, wound management – choosing the correct dressing
and understanding the wound healing process, removal of sutures, infection control
procedures, basic life support, documentation, demonstrating the use of inhalers,
spacers and peak flow measurement, ECG’S, patient education e.g. wound care follow
up, urine and pregnancy testing, bandaging and slings, referrals to agencies, assisting
with POAC patient procedures, assisting with plastering and stocking of equipment.
After completing BN5 clinical experience I have been casually employed as a Health
Care Assistant. I have gained experience and competence with clinical procedures.
BN4 Whirinaki Child and Adolescent Mental Health: Key skills: maintaining
confidentiality, the taking of vital signs, assessments (using BATOMI), planning
outcomes, accurate documentation, working within a collaborative healthcare team,
communicating with whanau/families, patient education, cultural safety, school and
home visits to observe children and researching other agencies for referrals.
BN3 Gastro Ward: Key skills: maintaining confidentiality, the taking of vital signs,
measuring and administering medications while relating these to pathophysiology,
wound care, nursing care with planned outcomes, working and communicating
effectively within the healthcare team, blood sugar testing, assessment skills, effective
and professional relationships with patients, researching pathophysiology and the
disease process, injections, therapeutic interventions, assisting patients with activities of
daily living, cultural safety and observing procedures.
BN2 Aorere College: Key skills: working within the school community team, HEADSS
assessments, referrals to key professionals e.g. social worker, maintaining privacy and
confidentiality, building trusting relationships with the students, cultural safety,
documentation, follow up on students, sprains and wound care and educating the
students on health and wellbeing.
BN2 Orthopedic ward: Key skills: documentation, wound care, blood sugar testing,
assisting patients with activities of daily life, effective communication with patient’s,
