We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you in September. Football This term has seen the fabulous achievement by Barcelona FC who have conquered Spanish and International football by winning the “triplete”. all I am sure you will wish to join me in congratulating them for their hard work and amazing accomplishments. SCHOOL SHOW The school show for KS2 this year is “Move It” and will as usual take place at Colegio Menesiano on Wednesday 17th June at 18.30pm. Rehearsals are well under way and the children and teachers have been practising very hard. The plot is about 4 rival dance crews who are competing for a place in a regional dance competition. There is plenty of drama and music, singing and dancing. The school is organising a professional to come and video the whole show so that parents can relax and enjoy watching the show without the stress of taking photos and video. The cost of the video varies depending on the number of parents who wish to purchase it. INTERNATIONAL EVENING The “International Evening”, our annual social evening for parents, will place on Friday 19th June at 19.30pm. This event is part fundraiser and part social event. We have many parents, especially those in Year 6, who have volunteered to help. There will be a Raffle, bottle stall and various other games and stalls. The caterers will provide tapas and drinks and parents will be bringing food from their countries. All parents are welcome and Year 6 children ONLY as it is also their farewell to Numont. We look forward to seeing you all there. It is normally a great evening. Trip to Strasbourg Some of the Year 6 children entered a schools competition organised by the Council of Europe. Numont was one of 3 schools to win. The children had to draw pictures in the form of comics representing various themes to do with the internet and human rights. The prize includes an all-expenses paid trip to Strasbourg for 2 children and a teacher. They will be going on the 16th to the 19th June. Adriana Preda and Elizabeth Smith will be going with Mrs Pammy. They will have to present their work to a panel of judges and explain the meaning of their drawings. NUMONT SPORTS The Summer term has as always been busy with Sports Days, Athletics Volleyball, and Rounders. th On the May 19 pupils in Years 4, 5 & 6 competed in the Inter- School Athletics. The Numont Team put in some exceptional performances winning many medals and earning points through being well placed in their events. A special mention to Jaime and Manuel Prats, Amable Losado, Victor Fernandez, Raphaëlle Smith, and Jorge Lopez. All the children who participated did their best and are a credit to Numont. Congratulations to all participants. On the 28th May many parents joined us to participate in our annual Numont Sports Day at the Luis Aragones Sports Centre. The final result was 1st Ahlberg (Blue) nd 2 Donaldson (Yellow) rd 3 Rowling (Green) th 4 Dahl (Red) All the children were rewarded with a badge. Many thanks to everyone who helped and participated. On Monday 22nd June the Reception Sport’s Day will be held in the Parque Juan Carlos Iº. The children will take part in many races such as the Egg & Spoon & the Sack Race. Mrs Bazakis ESPAÑOL I Jornada al Reconocimiento Escolar Two Year 6 pupils received prizes from the Comunidad de Madrid on 17th June. Ana Saura will receive “el premio a la excelencia académica”, & Folake Gonzalez Castro “al mérito y esfuerzo personal.” Very well done both to you!! Miss Julia will also attend the ceremony. EXTRA-CURRICULAR SHOW The Extra-Curricular Show will take place on Monday 22nd June at 17.00pm. The ballet children may stay at school with Mrs Beatriz until they are ready to perform. The following is the order in which the children will perform. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Basketball Ballet Bollywood Guitar Piano The parents of those children performing are welcome to come and watch. The show should last approximately one and a half hours. The Bake Sale on the 24th April raised 1160 euros which was given to the library to buy new library books. Many thanks to all the parents, children and teachers for all their efforts. This term we had another Bake Sale on the 12th June where was raised for the charity “Manacare”. SAN ISIDRO We celebrated San Isidro on the 13th May. The children came in in their “chulapo” costumes and they enjoyed churros and chocolate. As usual is was a lovely day celebrating Madrids patron saint. SCHOOL EXCURSIONS Every term, 2 excursions are usually organised for each class. The teachers choose the excursions and try and make it relevant to topics they are studying that particular term. In the Summer term because of the SATs, the school show, and as it is the end of the school year, the excursions usually include one that is a ”fun” trip. This term, however as it was a shorter term than usual some classes only went on one trip. YEAR 6 It’s been a busy year, assemblies, SAT’s, trips and the school show “Move It”. Mrs Kennedy The annual disco for Year 6 will take place at ISM on Monday 22nd June in the evening. The children will have pizza and refreshments and meet the Year 6 children from ISM. Mrs Gemmell, and Mrs Kennedy will also attend. Year 6 will be going to a multi-adventure park on Monday 22rd June as their end of school trip. Year 5 Year 5 went to the Archeological Museum on June 5th as they have been studying the ancient Greeks. They are going to the Reina Sofia on the 19th to look at works of modern art, especially those of Picasso, which they studied last term. They are also going to have a pyjama party on the 23rd June. Year 4 Year 4 are going to Faunia on Monday 22nd June Year 3 Year 3 went to the Geominero Museum and did a “workshop”. They are going to the Botanical gardens on the 19th June to do the “workshop”, “misterios de la selva”. Year 2 Year 2 have been to the “Biblioteca Nacional” and done a “workshop” on “trajemundi”. They are also going to visit the castle at Manzanares el Real. They have been studying about castles and in their Design and Technology class made one from scratch. This involved planning, designing and building it, using their knowledge and imagination. Year 1, Reception and Nursery. Year 1 went to the Botanical Gardens where they did the workshop “Pequeños Exploradores”. Reception went to Faunia and spent the whole day there and Nursery 1 went on their annual zoo trip. They were lucky with the weather which meant they were able to see all the shows as well as walk around the zoo and see all the animals. Reception were also very fortunate in that the police visited the school bringing with them a police car and a fire engine which the children took in turns to climb in and sound the sirens. ASSEMBLIES Nursery 1. For their Summer Show Nursery 1 sang songs about Summer-time, under the sea, and of course Summer holidays! The y had a great time performing in front of their mums and dads. They were super! Well done. Mrs Majella Nursery 2 Reception A. The children in Reception A performed an amazing assembly in the Summer Term. They sang about “Sea Creatures” and “Sunshine” as well as some classic Summer songs such as Summer Holiday” by Cliff Richard and “Octopus Garden” by the Beatles. Well done for a super Assembly!! Mr Mcleod Reception B. In May we sang some songs about summer journeys. The children particularly enjoyed singing “Red Sails” and doing the actions for “Steam Train”. The last song “School’s Out for Summer” was also a big hit and the children loved being rock stars at the end of the show! Well done to all of them! Miss Dolley Year 1A &1B Year 1A spent the month of May talking about oceans. We also studied fish and other creatures that live in “Under the Sea”. We decided to create a show with this in mind and also read one of our favourite books, “Commotion in the Ocean” for inspiration. Miss Mary & Miss Hannah Year 2A. Year 2A performed “Peggy and Leggy the Pint-sized Pirates. The Assembly was about teaching children that you have to be determined to try hard to achieve your dreams and that you should never throw litter in the sea! The children worked very hard learning their lines and all the songs, and each child turned out a wonderful performance. It was a great success and I am very proud of the whole class. Well done!! Mr Marugan. Year 2B. Year 2B has had a great time learning about castles, visiting the castle at Manzanares and finally performing a castle assembly at school. They are now experts on castles! Well done children! Mrs Jessica Year 2C Year 2C have been studying and learning all about castles and the role of a knight. Our Assembly was based on all we had learned. The children dressed up in princess and knight costumes. They all learned their lines really well and sang songs and even performed a medieval dance. All their work was displayed on the walls so parents could appreciate all the hard work they had done in class. The children all did really well and tried their best. Well done! Miss Walters STAFF NEWS Farewells This year we are very sad to say goodbye to 4 members of staff. Mrs O’Donnell, who has been with us for nearly 15 years will be going to teach in “Brains”. She has been a wonderful and very popular teacher at Numont. She will be missed by the teachers and the children We wish her all the very best. Mr Marugan and Mrs Marith are both leaving us to go and live and work in Sweden. Mr Marugan will be teaching various subjects in an International Secondary school and Mrs Marith will be teaching in a Primary School. Mr Marugan has been with Numont on and off since he was 2 years old, so we are sure he will come back to Numont one day in the future. We wish them all the best in everything they do and hope the whole family are happy in their new life. Miss Rosanna will be returning to London to work in a Primary School there. We wish her every success and happiness. On a happier note, Mrs Gill had a baby boy Ryan and Mrs Hannah is expecting a baby in July. Congratulations to both. Welcomes We would like to welcome new members of staff who have joined us during the year. Miss Colette joined us in April and despite working as an assistant in Nursery and Reception, she is a qualified teacher having recently completed her P.G.C.E. Miss Bethan joined us in May and is working as an assistant in Year 2. SUMMER SCHOOL Numont School offers an English Language Summer School for students aged 3 – 12. The programme is activity orientated. It includes: Art & Handicrafts, Cooking, Drama, IT, Music, Sports, etc. Students learn to apply the English Language to practical situations, and will develop conversational, reading, writing and listening skills. Summer School will take place from Thursday 26th June until Wednesday 23th July inclusive. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm. The cost of the whole month is 560€. Students may attend all or part of the course. Reservation Forms are available from the office or by email. The Reservation Fee is 100€ payable in the office or by bank transfer.
