Thiscourseprovidesanintroductiontothefieldoflinguisticsthroughan
in‐depthexplorationofmanyfacetsoftheEnglishlanguage.Wewill
examinetheEnglishsoundsystem(phoneticsandphonology),word
structure(morphology),grammar(syntax),andmeaning(semantics)and
usage(pragmatics/discourse).WewillconsiderotheraspectsofEnglish
includingitsacquisitionbychildren,itshistoryasalanguage,anditssocial
functionsasalocalandgloballanguage.
