Lesson: 3.2 Electricity, Magnetism, and Motion (P. 85)
Energy is the ability to move an object over a distance.
The energy associated with electric currents is called electrical energy, and the energy an object
has due to its movement is called mechanical energy.
When a wire with a current is placed in a magnetic field, electrical energy is transformed into
mechanical energy. This causes the wire to move.
A galvanometer is a device that measures small currents. An electric current is used to turn the
pointer of a galvanometer.
An electric motor is a device that uses an electric current to turn an axle. An electric motor
transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy.
