Westside High School Lesson Plan Zita Unit Name and #: Course: Geometry PAP Dates: Tuesday Monday Teacher Name: Chapter 11A Area of Plane Figures 2/2/15-2/6/15 Topic: 11.1 Area of Parallelograms and Triangles What are we learning? Daily Objective: I will be able to find the area of a triangle and parallelogram and apply Heron’s formula to find the area of a triangle. TEKS/AP/Standards: G.1.A: Develop an awareness of the structure of a mathematical system, connecting definitions, postulates, logical reasoning, and theorems G.5.A: Use numeric and geometric patterns to develop algebraic expressions representing geometric properties G.8.A: Find areas of regular polygons, circles, and composite figures G.8.C: Derive, extend, and use the Pythagorean Theorem How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Students will apply the area of parallelogram formula (review). Students will be introduced to the Heron’s formula and will apply it to find the area of a triangle. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Guided Practice Problems Checks for Understanding: Teacher will be walking around while the students are working on practice problems. What do I need to be successful? Chapter 11A Packet What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: HW: Heron’s Formula Pg. 1 (odds), Practice 11.1 Practice C Pg. 2-3 EOC #2 due Friday Topic: 11.2 Area of Rhombus, Kites, and Trapezoids What are we learning? Daily Objective: I will be able to use geometric relationships to find the area of trapezoids, rhombuses, and kites. TEKS/AP/Standards: G.5.A: Use numeric and geometric patterns to develop algebraic expressions representing geometric properties G.8.A: Find areas of regular polygons, circles, and composite figures G.9.B: Formulate and test conjectures about the properties and attributes of polygons and their component parts based on explorations and [concrete] models G.10.B: Justify and apply triangle congruence relationships Wed/Thur Fr id ay How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Warm Up Quiz #1 -Area of Triangles and Parallelograms and Heron’s Formula Students will work on real-life application problems over areas of trapezoids, rhombuses, and kites. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Warm Up Quiz #1 Guided Practice Checks for Understanding: Warm Up Quiz #1 - Students will switch and grade each other’s warm up. Teacher will have a Q&A session after about the quiz. Teacher will be walking around while the students are working on practice problems. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Chapter 11A Packet What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: HW: Pg. 4-5 EOC #2 due Friday Topic: District Level Assessment/Warm Up Quiz #2 What are we learning? Daily Objective: District Level Assessment/Warm Up Quiz #2 TEKS/AP/Standards: District Level Assessment/Warm Up Quiz #2 How will we learn it? Learning Activities: District Level Assessment/Warm Up Quiz #2 How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Warm Up Quiz #2 Checks for Understanding: Warm Up Quiz #2 - Students will switch and grade each other’s warm up. Teacher will have a Q&A session after about the quiz. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Chapter 11A Packet What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: HW: Pg. 6-7 EOC #2 due Friday Topic: 11.3 Perimeter and Area of Similar Figures What are we learning? Daily Objective: I will be able to discover the effect of perimeter and area when dimensions of similar figures. TEKS/AP/Standards: G.8.A: Find areas of regular polygons, circles, and composite figures. G.11.B: Use ratios to solve problems involving similar figures. G.11.C: Develop, apply, and justify triangle similarity relationships, such as right triangle ratios, trigonometric ratios, and Pythagorean triples using a variety of methods. G.11.D: Describes the effect on perimeter, area, and volume when the dimensions of a figure are changed and applies this idea in solving problems. How will we learn it? Learning Activities: Students will work with their shoulder partner to discover the effect on perimeter and area when dimensions of a figure are changed. How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly? Assessment Methods: Student explain their findings from activity. Checks for Understanding: Students will be called up to the board to fill in their answers and explain what they discovered about the effect on perimeter and area when dimensions of a figure are changed. Students will apply what they learned to a real-life application problem. What do I need to be successful? Materials: Chapter 11A Packet Perimeter and Areas of Similar Figures WS What do I need to before next class? Follow Up/HW: HW: Pg. 13-15
