Concert by Quintetto Bottesini Roosevelt University, 430 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago Tuesday, February 9, 7:30 PM. Alessandro Cervo, violin Federico Stassi, viola Giacomo Grandi, cello Roberto Della Vecchia, double bass Linda Di Carlo, piano The Italian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with Roosevelt University, is pleased to present the world renowned Quintetto Bottesini. The quintet was created with the intent of rediscovering compelling but rarely performed musical repertory that brings together violin, viola, cello, double-bass and piano. This instrumental ensemble, consecrated by Franz Schubert in his famous Die Forelle quintet (1819), has also been put to use by lesser-known composers such as Johann Nepomuck Hummel, who inserted the double-bass in his Settimino and in the op. 87 quintet (1822). In addition to these compositions, the repertory of Quintetto Bottesini features well-known quartets with piano (Mozart, Schumann, Brahms) and virtuoso pieces by Giovanni Bottesini, the renowned double-bass player, composer and conductor for whom the quintet is named. On February 9 the first half of the evening with Quintetto Bottesini will be devoted to the Quintet in C. Minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958). The second half of the program will feature Cuatro Estaciones Portenas by Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992). Please join ICI director Tina Cervone for an evening exciting music and outstanding musical performance. A reception will follow the concert. (where - reception)
