Text: Abstract Algebra, 3rd edition by Dummit and Foote, published by Wiley
Brief Course Description: This course is a continuation of the fall graduate algebra
course M380C, currently taught by David Helm. The subject matter is the theory of
fields, field extensions, and Galois theory for finite extensions. As time permits we will
also consider Galois theory for infinite extensions, and the first theorems of algebraic
geometry. M380C and M380D are the basic algebra courses that should prepare graduate
students for the preliminary exam in algebra.
